Comedian Dom DeLuise, who made a living playing a wide range of hilarious characters in the two The Cannonball Run movies, several Mel Brooks films, and several animated films, died last night at age 75.
Not as well-known today as he once was, many of us still grew up enjoying his antics. He also loved cooking, and would go on tour for cookware companies to share his culinary knowledge in the midst of the sales pitch. For those who didn't know about or couldn't make the tours, he wrote a few cookbooks that did relatively well. Dom also dabbled in children's books, writing about a half-dozen through the 1990s, a further display of his varying talents.
Another icon from my childhood has passed. I only regret that never once did I invite him over for coffee and cake, or a ganool... Something, you know?

If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

*sad*
The first role that came to mind, oddly enough, was as Don Giovanni in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. He was a pretty funny sonofabitch. And wow... IMDB isn't even updated with the info yet. They're usually pretty quick when a celebrity dies.

How sad. I loved him as the director of the 1920 gay movie in Blazing Saddles. "Wrong!"
Good thing I have my sister's movie collection. Time to raid it for Blazing Saddles, and few other such works.

I went to the hotel today to try out for the softball team, and while I was hanging around the cafeteria this was on the news... Upsetting, to say the least... =\
