May 8, 2009 - So how was the movie?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

My family and I went to see it and all loved it. The age range was 13 to 42 and we all had points/references that we got. Of course my kids grew up with TNG and the movies so they had that appreciation for it and I had the appreciation for the original (and the more recent incarnations). I liked the nods they gave to the original but greatly enjoyed the "modern" look of the ship. I'm sure if they had the know how and budget back in the day it would have been created that way. All in all awesome and my little fangirl heart said *glee*.

Spoiler: (click to reveal/hide)
The movie does leave one curious where they are going to go from here, because the timeline is so different with Vulcan gone. The loss of that planet could heavily alter the future from that point. After all, one ship being out of place in the one TNG episode changed the future so that the Klingons and the Federation were at war.

I will concede it was not the pile of suck I expected. I will in fact concede that it was.... acceptable. I enjoyed it. I don't view it however as a "true" Star Trek film, not yet. Perhaps when the movies following this time line come out I will reconsider but I'm not sure yet.

I DID love the reference to the Kobiashi Maru test(sp?). HA!!!! I always wanted to see how Kirk pulled that one off and this was no disappointment. I'm not sure what I think of kid Spock and kid Kirk though, I think it could have done without that.
All in all, enjoyable movie, would see again. Not sure if I like it as much as the old Star Trek. But then again, I"m a purist.
