Ir-wii-sponsible - May 29, 2009

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

I have a 32 inch Bravia LCD, the Wii works fine on it.

The TV type/size doesn't matter. The Wiimote doesn't work like a other light guns that sense light from the monitor. Instead it sense light from the sensor bar, so it removes the TV from the equation. In the Wii menu there is a setting for the placement of the sensor bar (above or below the TV).

CAVE. STORY.

Seriously. Thread over.

(sucks that in the process they killed off the official psp and ds ports, though )

yeah. Everyone with a Wii ... if you like Metroidvanias, do yourself a favor and pick up Cave Story when it comes out.

Or just scour the web and download it for the PC. If you're viewing this on a PC, chances are you can run it. :P

Though since the Wii version looks like it'll have updated graphics/music/extra stuff, it'll probably be worth getting too!

COMIC
All things considering the subject of this thread, I actually found that funnier and more wonderfully sarcastic than the original. It was so sarcastically unfunny that it actually became funny again.
Lucksi wrote:The TV size shouldn´t matter, but in a way it does, since it influences where I put the sensor bar.

I just tried it again yesterday. When I put the sensor bar directly on top of the TV (and change the settings in the menu), I have to point the Wiimote away from the TV [the vertical axis is totally wrong, while the horizontal axis is always correct] for the pointer to appear on the TV.
Feel free to set the sensor bar position in the options somewhere different.

My TV is somewhat low to the ground, and the sensor bar is on top, and it feels akward to point that low at the ground. I told the Wii that my sensor bar was below the TV, even though it was sitting on top, and I can comfortably point more or less in front of me instead of down at the ground.

I personally find it's more important for gaming that when your cursor is in the center of the screen, that you are pointing the remote horizontally, rather than actually pointing at the screen.

I also think the sensitivity settings are linked to how far you're sitting away from the TV. Try adjusting them so the two dots blink in unison instead of randomly.

I saw where the top two selling video games by volume were the Wii Sports and the Wii Fit. (Apparently the Fit is still hard to find.) And there's more of those kind of fitness games coming out in the next few months.

David Wong over at Cracked just co-wrote an article titled 5 Things the Gaming Industry Will Never Fix (and Why). It's a pretty good read, and the #1 item:
Spoiler: (click to reveal/hide)
Shovelware, aka the loads of crap that come out on a system
is pertinent to this thread's discussion.

Greg, thanks for making that sarcastic comic follow-up. :D Win.

EDIT: Oh, and my Wii sensor bar has given me those issues too. I feel like the pointing is somehow getting worse. Anyone else ever have the setting sun come through a window and make a spot near the TV, thereby diverting the attention of the Wiimote from the screen and making it hop randomly back and forth?

Lucksi wrote:Oh and Deacon? Rerunning the alignment setp? Umm, where is that? The only thing I can do is reregister the Wiimote (what I thought you meant but probably didn´t). I mean, there are only 3 pges of options, yet I can´t find it. The only thing connected to the sensor bar in the setup is the position and strenght of reception (whatever that menu point is called in english)
I don't think there is one in the Wii. Some games have an alignment option. I believe Metroid is one. What games do you have a problem with?
