08/12/2009 - Walt Disney

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

08/12/2009 - Walt Disney

Post by FireAza » Wed Aug 12, 2009 8:27 am

I had actually noticed this years ago: nearly all of the famous Disney films (The Lion King isn't based on a fairy tale, but it still doesn't count because it's a knock-off of Kimba the White Lion ;)) are not original stories! I guess the man was more about the technical proficiency of his animation than story-crafting. But yeah, I guess this makes him one of history's earliest fanfic writers :P

Beat him Liz, beat him with all you've got! :)

This made me truly giggle, and I'll have a smile on my face for the rest of the day with that line. :)

I've never seen Kimba so I can't speak to that, but I always felt The Lion King was loosely based on Hamlet.

Yes, Simba's based on Kimba.

And I've never thought about it. Walt Disney is just the world's most successful fanfic writer.

I'll never see the world the same way again.

Yes, Simba's based on HAMLET. Maybe Kimba was based on it as well, but it's definitely Hamlet that was one of the sources for The Lion King... and Kimba was another.

And I've never seen it that way, but I'm afraid your dear hubby's right.

Disney's a fanfic writer.

Greg I love the punchline!!!! I hope she does beat you down. How dare you call Walt Disney a Fanfic writer it is like calling Miyzaki-sama a tracer. Disney did use some Grimm but he used other stories, like the so famous Kimba/Simba (Kimba the White Lion/Lion King) I'd say more of a movie maker of the poems/stories and something is ALWAYS lost in translation. I'd call Walt Disney a translator.

Don't fanfic writers use the pre-existing characters and/or universe to make a separate story? Disney films don't extend the stories, they rewrite them. Disney films aren't fanfics, they're remakes.

That has been done with fanfics as well. Some take the existing characters and make alternate universes.

Oh yes, don't forget Hans Christen Anderson's, The Little Mermaid.

What the hell is that second comma there for? o.O

The oxford comma is the comma placed at the end of a list of multiple items, such as when you're told to pick up milk, butter, and eggs. So why're you asking who gives a fuck about something that's not even under discussion?
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."

"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."
