So you want feudal japan (and probably China) based anime? Try...

Ninja Scroll (Just the first one, no Jubei's revenge or any of that.)
Soul Hunter (Set around 3 kingdoms era China, good stuff IMO.)

He could do that, but then there wouldn't be the charm and luster that is the n00b.

It would help if you mentioned what in particular you liked about Kenshin and Inuyasha.

Well, I suspect he liked the general feudal Japan-type setting of them. Either that or he likes guys with swords.

Or the character development. Or the humor. Or the plotlines. Or the fight scenes.

Whatever. I suggest Ranma 1/2. It was created by Rumihiko Takahashi, who created Inuyasha, but the two shows are quite different.

You could also try .hack//anything, Trigun, and Outlaw Star.

If Dynasty Warriors (Three Kingdoms to the literati) was an anime, I'D cream myself.

Further, Shiny, I'm pretty sure he wanted a show from a feudal/medieval setting. Hence, I'm going to also recommend Slayers.

Serial Experiments Lain is running on Tech TV right now. You might like that. It's on at 9:00.

You might also want to be on LSD when you watch it, from what I hear, it makes the whole thing a lot more understandable.
