9/21/09 SGU

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

That is pretty much the curse of Stargate isn't it? If you're famous you are either "guest" or " a dead guest" very quickly. Wasn't the t-1000 (and X-files replacement) actor in Atlantis for like 45 minutes of air time? I am personally leery of the show from watching the pilot. I do like dealing with lots of lore and material and whatnot but I don't want to see a "scripted" big brother with magical( super technology) devices. So I plan on giving it some episodes to build up steam and I'll go through all of them.

On a side note I need to finish SG:1 as i didn't finish the Ori arc nor saw the movie.

Cheers

Just skip the Ori movie, save a couple hours. The Ba'al movie was pretty good though

Oh? That bad of a movie?

I hear that the story doesn't actually include a really conclusive ending. Just the super weapon being fed-ex'd to the Ori galaxy.

Is there any indication to the length of time between the ancients moving to this galaxy and ascending? Would like to look into it.

I dunno that he actually did that. It seemed to me that he was genuinely surprised at the "not dying" part and that his motive really was "I don't want to try to live on some planet a bajillion light years from Earth". I think that what he was really after was just to make them THINK he knew - causing turmoil within the minds of the military folks.
Though it still doesn't make sense to me that all these military people are treating Eli like one of their leaders just because he's a Wesley Crusher-esque prodigy.
But he is the "master at making up some shit".
I don't know who wrote the pilot, but don't let him write any more episodes. Seriously, you knew immediately what would happen to the senator just based on him being a more famous actor than everyone else.
Standard Starcraft fare. Hell, it's even standard SciFi (I refuse to use that new bullshit name) fare.

He's a famous actor? What for?

Really? That movie's awesome. However, I don't think having a good part in one movie makes you a "famous actor", especially if most people can't recognize you from then. I had no clue who he was.

He was easily recognizable and not advertised as a main character, i.e. Richard Dean Anderson, so it was pretty obvious he would bite the bullet. Thats not saying i knew what his name was...

Yep sounds like a curse. Gonna need more than two data points to make sure though... which means more stargate shows after this one >.>

Robert Carlyle is rather famous, I'm actually really surprised that he was cast as Rush because he is pretty recognisable, much more so than Christopher McDonald who hasn't really had a significant role since Happy Gilmore.

If you don't recognise Carlyle then I really suggest watching Trainspotting, its an awesome movie that Danny Boyle made in the mid-90s.

"Hell, it's even standard SciFi (I refuse to use that new bullshit name) fare."

I'm using it to describe sci-fi fare that was worse than even the original Sci-Fi fare. Case in point, Megafault!

As for people dying, my money's on Colonel Young. Within about three episodes, Young dies, and somehow Rush gets blamed for it I'm sure.
