April 5, 2010 - Obsession

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

April 5, 2010 - Obsession

I totally went in to Best Buy "Just to look". I did not want to buy one, honest!

But after using it, fondling it, touching it... it beamed some sort of mind-control ray in to my head and forced me to pick one up, take it to the register, and take it home.

And I totally think Apple should have just named it the PADD and done a licensing deal with Paramount, like Motorola did with Lucasfilms. (And if anyone finds a Star Trek themed skin for this thing - the kind that sticks on the back - please let me know!!)

But it doesn't use LCARS, therefore it is inferior. And it is an apple product, so automatically so full of hype that if you scratch it the magic smoke leaks out, leaving you with something that you can't change the battery on.

Damn, Greg's been on the ball lately, writing wise. Did he go full time again?

How come I must know, where obession needs to go?

Ah, someone just became MY new hero. :)

But I'm on board with this comic - Wired Magazine has CLEARLY had the same slant toward Apple for a while now, and it's absolutely disgusting how much they fawn over it. Hello, keyboard is extra, and no flash (oh wait, there will be an app for that! *snort*) Big thumbs down for me.

I travel an hour and a half each way to work by bus, and I tend to fall asleep - doesn't matter what I'm doing. Worst I've dropped so far is pen and paper. But I can only imagine dropping that on the bus in my sleep if I bought one.*gags at the thought* So, it really wouldn't be convenient for me, I'd be too terrified to use it, probably when I'd want to use it the most.

I mean, don't get me wrong - the concept is appealing to me. But it's not a COMPUTER, and that's what I look for in a device like that. I want to run my own OS and my own programs... not big iPhone apps. *shrug*

If it had flash, I MIGHT have been more willing to consider it. But since it's limited as all hell, I just can't see myself getting one.

Ugh, I hope they will shut up about this overpriced under-performing piece of crap in the near future. It's sad to know that better hardware which is at the horizon won't even get 10% of the exposure. I'd LOVE a proper pad PC with multi-touch and multi-tasking and Flash support and an open platform so we can have stuff like Dosbox on it. The iPad is a poor piece of hardware further neutered by all kinds of DRM measures killing my interest in it completely - it would be a dream come true if any REAL pad would become this popular.

Besides the lack of flash, the lack of multitasking is a huge strike against it. And I say this as a huge Apple honk. No way in hell I'd ever get one of these.

Especially since every female friend I have can't stop giggling at how stupid this name is. If I have to hear one more feminine hygiene joke relating to this product I'm going to fucking lose it.

Try working at a company that produce said feminine hygiene products then... There was a project aptly named ipad here long before Apple announced their pad :)
The problem with trying to make yourself more stupid than you are is that you often succeed...

Remember when they used to use an 'E' at the beginning of tech products? Email, eBay, etc.
