Wow, a worthless reply AND an ignorant, incorrect statement. You've got it going on.

Maybe because it is merely an iPod with a phone in it. It is quite simple, given that the circuitry for both the phone and the iPod fit in the device with room to spare - the design size is no longer based on fitting the circuitry, but other factors.FireAza wrote:iPhone with a protector? Re: Mp3 Players
Well, yeah. But why have something that's just a MP3 player when it can also be a phone and do other things too?

Yes, it's a fantastic phone, great media player, incredibly useful PDA, and sweet little gaming device.collegestudent22 wrote:Maybe because it is merely an iPod with a phone in it.

Agreed, but take away the "fantastic phone" part and you literally have an iPod.

Re: Mp3 Players
Part of it depends on what you want out of your mp3 player.
For my money, iAnything is a bad choice, and a Zune is a much better choice, because iPods don't really do dynamic playlist editing (wtf, apple, why is it so hard to go "I want to listen to these three songs, then play this song by this other artist next, then this other song, and hrm, I've lined up three songs, but before it, play this one"? Why do you shoehorn us into playing by artist, or album, or premade playlist?).

Re: Mp3 Players
This isn't totally true. Historically, there have been quite a few minor differences in hardware between the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Currently, the only major differences that I know of are some design and material differences for the casing and that the iPod Touch 4G has half the RAM (256MB) that the iPhone 4G has (512MB).collegestudent22 wrote:Agreed, but take away the "fantastic phone" part and you literally have an iPod.
Wow, a quick search indicates that Fuggle appears to be right about the lack of dynamic playlists. That's kind of incredible. I'm willing to bet that there's some sort of app or patch (though perhaps not officially supported) that will allow that, but still very odd. While Zunes are much nicer units than they're given credit for, my money is still on the iPod Touch for a higher end media player. Personally, I'd sooner spend several hundred dollars on a nice phone (like an iPhone, the Samsung Epic, the Palm Pre 2 that's coming out soon, or a Nokia n900) that'd do the same and more in a single device.
Also, since this thread has been revived, Rockbox added official support for my Fuse V2! Whoo! It's not as nice looking in terms of interface, but soooo much snappier and it has many customization options. It's glorious! Only negative is that the syncing for it doesn't quite work, so they've disabled it for the time being. It just automatically switches to the original firmware if I plug the media play in while it's off. Not a big deal, but I'll be glad when I don't need it anymore.

Re: Mp3 Players
Take away the phone, and you have an iPod TOUCH, not just a generic iPod. The iPod Touch is a whole different animal.
And if you have some particular thing that is such a big deal to you (that I've never really needed to do), then maybe an iPod isn't the best choice FOR YOU. Comparing a Zune to an iPod Touch is a little silly, in the Touch's favor. Unless maybe you have to be listening to FM radio to ejaculate.

Yeah, Apple decided that dynamic playlists weren't that big of a deal. And really, they do have a fairly primitive version of it from the first iPod - that "On-The-Road" playlist or whatever that you can add songs to by holding down on the selection of it. It isn't great, but still. It's a thing that most people don't even think about doing.
Deacon, I tend to refer to the iPod Touch as the "iPod" and the "Classic" as the "old iPod". Not technically correct, as one version of the Classic is still sold, but still.

Which strikes me as weird almost to the point of being unfathomable. Especially if you're gonna be on a long drive.collegestudent22 wrote: Yeah, Apple decided that dynamic playlists weren't that big of a deal. Eh. I guess it's a combination of musical ADD + a semi-diverse music taste + being spoiled by winamp for, like, 12 years, and the ability to drag , drop, add, subtract, and juggle my playlist. I just don't understand the Apple style. :/

Re: Mp3 Players
I am planning on getting my daughter the 4th gen touch for Christmas. Has anyone used one or had any experience with the camera feature? Is it worth paying the extra money for the 4th gen or should I stick with the less expensive 3rd gen? I am also considering the Nano if the camera isn't worth it.

Why not go for the camera? Also, what actual phone does she have? You may want to consider killing two birds with one stone and going for the iPhone, which I still love after over 3 years of ownership.

Well if the camera sucks I don't see the point in paying the extra money for it. She has a brand new phone that she loves with a slide out keyboard. She wants it mainly for music and hooking into her car for music as well.Deacon wrote:Why not go for the camera? Also, what actual phone does she have? I've never used it, so I can't say. If it's like the iPhone 4 camera, then it's surprisingly good.
