As though being played by women weren't bad enough already.

I think Ireland watching France get Knocked out was enjoyable.

Another disallowed goal for no reason, early in the USA-Algeria match!

I think I'm starting to figure out why this sport hasn't fully caught on here in the States. :-x

I'm wondering which sport has the worst referees: International Soccer, Major League Baseball or the NBA. Good god have the referees/umpires been horrible.

How about Landon Donovan, eh?

Wow.

Wow. And how appropriate that Landon Donovan be the one to score the goal. No American pitch footballer has deserved a moment like that more than he.

Nice to see USA win.

Referees in the NBA still are the worst.

I was in the break room here at work watching the last 15 minutes of the game, bitterly disappointed from earlier after the goal was waved off, seeing close call after close call, seeing the end closing in, feeling the tension rising, and after my heart stopped after the initial shot, and then the rebound, and then the next contact, and then the goal, I burst out with a jubilant holler of celebration. It was a little loud for an office environment, but I didn't get any official reprimands or anything like that, just understanding chuckles.

It was a great moment. I am SO GLAD that we didn't go out in a nil-nil draw, being drummed out of the World Cup having been shafted 4 points and being the clear winner of the Group. It would've likely been a death knell for pitch football in the US, too, as those casual bandwagoners such as myself would tend to either a) write it off and forget all about it or b) carry a grudge and say "Fuck soccer!" if anyone ever brings it up.

The group win is huge too. The U.S. gets to avoid an early possible matchup against Argentina/Mexico in the second knockout round.

It looks like they might get a re-match against Ghana.

PS Stupid forum and it's 640 pixel width limitation. You'd think any kind of modern web page could manage to handle a picture that's 800x600 at least...

I agree. That would have set the sport's growth in the US back thirty years. There's a lot riding on this World Cup for this sport's future in the US. Anything less than making it out of the group stage would be a devastating blow.
