Recettear

Post by Grumlen » Sat Sep 04, 2010 4:40 pm

Since I know there are many people on this forum that enjoy JRPGs, I thought I would share this Indie JRPG with all of you:

Recettear

You play the owner of an item shop in a JRPG tasked with paying off your father's debt that he incurred before he went off to become an adventurer and never returned. Your tasks include buying and selling stock, meeting people around town, and gaining the trust of Adventurers.

Once you have the trust of an Adventurer, you can hire them to venture into dungeons . . . with the caveat that anything they find is yours! There's a link to a demo for it on the right, though you may have to have a Steam account. The demo plays for the first week, and gives you a good taste of what the gameplay is like. The full version releases on Steam in 6 days.

Capitalism Ho! :D

My friend pointed this game out to me... I installed it, right around the time the open beta keys were launching, so I haven't been able to play it yet. It looks cute though. ;)

I've played the demo. Was reasonably fun and relatively inexpensive, so I've since pre-ordered it. Look forward to playing the retail version.

I also preordered this after playing "5 days" into the demo... my brother preordered it, too, and has been playing it over and over trying to get through the first week (he keeps getting pwned in the dungeon, LOL - then again, so did I. ;))

The thing the surprises me is this is a doujinshii game (i.e amateur-produced) and yet it's not a porno game. Who knew?

Well, I don't always make it through, but for the most part, I find the first week reasonably easy. That said, I haven't really tried going to the dungeons. I've been focusing on selling well, which certainly allows me to reach the funding goal with reasonably reliability.

Well, big tip for dungeons: Take healing items. To use them, open the MAIN menu and go to items. You can also bring your big shinies with you to equip the adventurer with temporarily, but they count against your bag size for taking loot out.

I found that running the 2nd dungeon gave me a LOT of nifty stuff to sell. The save I have to play the full game with ends at about 3000 whatevers, but has some really nice stock in the shop.
