Perfect, thanks.

I've been playing with the different classes and races, and I think I'm going to concentrate on the character who's currently in Ul'dah anyway, partly because I like the environment, and partly because I'm already a good part of the way through the newbie quest. :-)

I do have a question, though: I picked a miner to start off with; will I be at a disadvantage if I try to pick up combat skills with that character? I'm still real fuzzy on the whole skills/class system and how the stats and skills work together.

Thanks!

The only difference is the starting equipment which is all pretty much the same worth in terms of effectiveness. The only thing that would seem to be hard would be trying to raise money as a DoH only being able to due Local Leves as you might not have the gil to do your own craft.

I think I got most of that... but what's a DoH?

Thanks.

Gotta remember that us noobs don't know the slang and shorthands yet, so you have to spell it out in short words so we can understand it. :-) (I'm no stranger to RPG's or gaming, but I've never played an FF game before.)

Yeah, I was concerned that materials might get costly as I work my way up; I'm planning on working this character up as a fighter as well; I'm inclined to go with archery, but I've noticed that ranged attacks don't have much of an advantage in terms of survivability; the beasties throw stuff.

Thanks for the update, sport.

Welcome to the guild, Akai!

And I got my answer - the friends list does NOT update in real time... so unfortunately I won't know you've logged on unless I constantly open and close the window. You're better off checking for and messaging me when you log on. :P

Unfortunately I had to log off, along with everyone else, since the server just went into maintenance mode for the next 5 hours.

But I should be online all evening again tomorrow (and the rest of the week) if anyone else needs an invite. Got 4 people in tonight, so the linkshell is up to around 51 members (give or take 2-3 alts that I know of).

BTW, I was thinking we should offer current LS members (as in, people in the open beta) a reserved spot in the release version, just as our way of saying thanks for being there. Given that Linkshells have a max of 128, we kind of have to be a little sparing with giving that out.

Also... I will be working on a site design for Vera Vitae as well. Already got a logo of sorts designed... just have to get the rest of it going along with it. :)

Indeed I finally got a pearl:) (I am Akai Otori in game)

And I have to agree, no way going I was going to play this game without an LS.

I like this idea. Are we going to be staying on Palamecia or try and move over to Figaro?

On side note Kashue Noix gets me 'Tu parles français? ', or 'Parlez-vous français? ' which I reply (I do not speak French). So I need a better last name that goes with a nut theme but not another nut. If I can't find anything else I guess I'll just use Nut. I'm open to suggestions.

How about the surname "Jeneparlepasfrancais"... nah, too many letters. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. :(

The only thing I can think of that might make Figaro inconvenient is how large the Japanese population is that took over. I didn't really play FFXI long enough to know what people's experience was like interacting with the Japanese players, if there was any at all.

I haven't even checked how crowded the servers have become... I wonder what the population distribution looks like now with the initial rush being over and beta winding down.

In case anyone isn't aware, by the way, beta will be ending on the 19th.

Okay guys, I think it's time to take this discussion somewhere a little more... official. :D

www.veravitae.com

All that's there right now is a (sparsely populated) forum, but I could use your help letting me know what kind of forums you need. But generally... go there, go nuts. This is for you guys.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to register your account under your character's name. I do have it set to allow name changes if need be, but I'd like to keep everyone using the same name in the forum that they use in the game, if at all possible. Yes, it's possible to use spaces in the name, so no worries there.
