March 2nd - Product Placement?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

I've never owned a Kindle, but I think I still vastly prefer having a real book in my hands, something I can thumb through have the smell of the paper and ink waft up in my direction, something that doesn't run out of batteries and doesn't get you scolded by the flight attendants, something I can put on my book shelves after I'm done and keep for another 20 or 50 years, something I can freely lend to others or give away entirely, something I can forget about entirely and thus be delighted to discover in an old moving box, something with dog-eared pages and creased cover art that brings back so many memories.

I understand the utility of the Kindle, but I still prefer paper. If I weren't such a cheap bastard, I'd just buy both and see what happens.

Thanks to an amazing sale a few weeks ago, I'm now the proud owner of a Nook, and I LOVE the damn thing. I'm with you on the whole notion of paper and all, and I sure as hell like collecting books if for no other reason than to HAVE them, but I'm also pretty big on the e-book kick. What I'd like is something like current movie purchases are doing, where you get the physical copy and then the free digital download. It'd be tough because of the market fragmentation, but it'd sure be nice to be able to OWN the book, but read it on my nook.

It's nice for reading PDFs, though... and those ain't so hard to come by.

Yeah, I have a rather large collection of ePubs on my Nook at the moment. It's so much easier than an actual book because you never have to worry about finishing a book and not having another to read immediately.

I should rephrase. I don't have a Kindle. The missus has a Kindle. I get to read the books when she's done my downloading them to the Kindle app on my phone.

That's the part I love about the whole setup. I never get to touch the Kindle, but I can still read the books she buys for the thing. And if I feel like being an utter bastard, I open the book she's reading and start messing with her bookmarks.

Now if he'd only come when I'm not half way around the world in Turkey...

Good lord, Deacon. You're becoming quite the Willy Fog.
Enjoy Turkey. It's a country I know little about.

I'd declare war on those who wouldn't hit it.

Miss Turkey
I'd certainly be interested in a gobble.

Hey, that'd be funny if you were Scottish.

Arguably.
