5.23.2011 - Knot funny
I'm surprised there's no manly knitting websites that shows you what manly stuff you can make from knitting. At the same time, I'm just surprised Greg hasn't taken up leather making. It's not chain mail, but at least you can a half decent leather padded armor from it. And in a few years, he could get good enough to make masterwork leather padded armor. Not sure where he could go to get that magical +1 bonus though.

Go to Ravelry. There are many manly groups of knitters. I'm just surprised he's not knitting the scarf.

I second the Ravelry suggestion - there's something for everyone there. There are plenty of male knitters who have a web presence outside of Rav, too, and if you're looking for books, may I suggest "Knitting With Balls?" (http://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Balls-Ha ... 0756622891)

Greg is on Ravelry and I gave him a bunch of groups to join when he did. But neither of us have really been on there in nearly a year.

Which season? I'm doing a season 16+17, but most people do a season 12. The crazies? They all do season 15.Greg Dean wrote:I have plans.gravity wrote:I'm just surprised he's not knitting the scarf.

Re: 5.23.2011 - Knot funny
I don't have a preference, since I still have yet to see any of the Tom Baker Who. I'm definitely not insane enough to do a season 16 scarf, because I'd like to finish it before Harper leaves for college.
And the season 18 scarf is fugly, but the Season 15 scarf looks fine to me... what's wrong with it?
Re: 5.23.2011 - Knot funny
The season 15 scarf is twice as wide as the other scarves. It's why it was replaced so fast, it just looks wrong on so many levels. But the season 16+17 scarf (it was only changed in the unaired episode) is shorted than the season 18 scarf.
Here's a visual comparison of the scarves from WittyLittleKnitter:

The season 18 scarf is 26 feet, and the season 12 scarf is about 13 feet. Mine is going to average about 19 feet.

interesting - that doesn't jibe with the info on http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com/ . But her site seems to have more info, so I'll accept it as fact.
I'll probably wind up doing a S12 scarf, then.

Yeah, a lot of info on the scarves doesn't match, but WittyLittleKnitter has studied the scarves in person, and her scarves are the ones given to people involved with Doctor Who now, so I trust her stuff a lot more than I trust any other source on the matter. Even the BBC doesn't release proper info on the scarves (that really comes into play with the season 18 scarf more than the others), though I think that's more an issue with non knitters releasing info and having no clue what they're talking about so they don't know when and what they've screwed up.
Oh, and there is a Doctor Who scarf support group on Ravelry. There's not much that can be done about the sickness once caught, but at least the victims can discuss the illness together.
