8.12.2011 - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, B, A, Baby.

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Lucky Liz. My wife was a trooper. She was dialated to 9 before they got the thing in her--they said that if she would have gotten to 10, then the process would have been too far along to attempt putting the epidural in.

It was creepy how much in pain she was pre-epidural, and how un-pained she was post.

I liked that you put in the Metallica v. Napster AND a Game Genie reference in the same comic. Genius!

The only drug my wife did was a bit of gas to take the edge off. But we were start to finish in about 3 hours, so it was the only one we had time for.

Supposedly (read: according to our lamaze child class) an epidural can slow down the process as the body doesn't get all the signals, so doesn't push as well, but meh.

Body not baby.

eg: the mother can't tell when her body is having a contraction so doesn't bear down in the same way.

It can slow labor because you're then stuck in bed and gravity can't help you as much.

I had a fantastic epidural though. I was able to feel the pressure of contractions and was even able to feel the urge to push. I just didn't have any of the pain to go with it.

I'm doing very well. You'd think that after pushing for 4 hours, that I'd be doing worse, but I seem to be doing well.

I'm suffering a bit from postpartum depression, but I'm getting through it. :)

Oh wow. It was really weird for me when my Mom was pregnant with me. You see, we lived in Germany but the hospital that they had to go to was in Holland. A three hour trip and going across the borders. So, I don't know how true it is, my Mom said that she went into labor after she ate a homemade taco salad and then her water broke. So by the time that my parents made it to the hospital and gotten to a room, Mom was always at 9. No more than an hour later, I was born.

She said it was the quickest labor she's experienced.

She sleeps 4-5 hour stretches at night. She's a good baby. :)

Congrats to you both! My wife and I just had our 2nd at the end of May (Josh). Abby (3) loves her little brother. He's a sleeper already too (like all night already God love him). Abby was such a crank and would go down for at best 2-3 for the first few months.

My wife was in labor for over a day with Abby and about 12 hours with Josh. I've told my wife both times I'm glad that women birth the child since I know I couldn't take it. :)

Good luck and congrats again; take pictures and video...it goes by F A S T!

Oh, long time reader (since the days when it was hosted on a 3rd party site; I recall airport job, mechs, and time travel to get better PCs... :) ).
