3.21.12 - No VHS
TOS actually was available on VHS. But they came in the mail.
I think it was some sort of subscription service in the 80s - for X/Mo, you get one (or two) VHS tape with 2 episodes. They'd arrive and my dad would put them in a box in the closet, then my brothers and I would go "TOS Diving" and grab a case out of the box.
It's how I got to see TOS. =)
Now if only he'd done that for Dr Who..

Columbia House VHS!
My aunt got TOS through them. Only problem was they didn't originally send them in any meaningful order, so she had to number them herself so she would know what the proper order was.
I got the TNG tapes from them later on. Still have them around here somewhere, though I also have the DVDs.
(...and I haven't seen all of TOS either, though I've definitely seen more than 5 episodes.)
Woah! Four years to the day since I joined! I think I need to post a bit more though.

See, I was cheap, just watched reruns on basic TV. After that when I was in HS I used to watch it on the Tivo (my dad was a Trekkie, and a Kirk fan).

I think it's like this thing:ampersand wrote:Wait, what's VHS?

Note: This is actually the IBM 305 RAMAC, or at least the first magnetic hard drive that was used for the computer (released in 1956). It stored 5 whole megabytes.

I don't k ow how I feel about there being such a thing as a "TiVo" when you were in high school. I feel like gray hair my sprout on my temples at any moment.spikegirl7 wrote:when I was in HS I used to watch it on the Tivo

We had a VHS and a Betamax (ask your parents, kids). My dad owned a small video store in the 80s, back in the days when you'd have to wait about a year between cinema and video release and a new release would cost you about £80.
He'd bring a video home on a Friday night and it was an occassion, let me tell you. I know that's hard to imagine now with a dozen movie channels available at the touch of a button, but a movie was once a big deal. I think that's why I remember 80s movies so fondly.
I'm practising this story for Cara. Cue blank look and lack of interest.

I graduated in 2005. There was early Tivo.
