Bruce Almighty beats Matrix:Reloaded on opening weekend

Post by Evil Ghaleon Strife » Tue May 27, 2003 8:57 pm

Sounds impossible, but it IS true. Bruce Almighty made $80 million on it's first weekend, beating out the Matrix at $75 million. (? not too sure.) Damn the Matrix and it's thursday release date...
I had that dream again. My world was black as night. Plagued by visions of a future world, I sang about these dreams, warning man of his demise. Wasted words that no one heard...

I know the truth is out there...

Well, yeah it beat out the Matrix. Matrix was released on a Thursday, so a lot of fans went and saw it then, and had time to spread the word of goodness/suck value, which then impacted other people.

Also, Bruce Almighty looked like it was going to be a great movie, and Carrey has a loyal fanbase. Though, from what I heard, it kinda sucked.

In your opinion. I saw it on Friday and I enjoyed it. A little blasphemous (sp), but nonetheless it was quite funny. Carrey does a wonderful job, something that I believe only he could pull off.

I give an A-

P.S. - If you have read the Bible - watch closely for the miracles that occur in the background. Makes it much more funny. :D

I hadn't even heard of Bruce Almighty until I saw an advert for it before Reloaded on Friday...

Needless to say it looks...erm...interesting.

I'll probably end up renting it when it comes out as I only really go and see films that catch my eye at the cinema.

It was very funny and a neat concept, but it would have been a zillion times better if they didn't pretend they were talking about something deep and stick in the "Philosophy for Dummies."

Wait a minute, that applies to Matrix, too.

The Matrix Reloaded took $154m after only 10 days on release, and it was released on a thursday, or on wednesday afternoon here. Total, It made $363.5m including its US and Foreign box offices. However, Bruce Almighty overcame it on this last weekend, it didn't out-do the opening weekend, it outdid it's what 2nd? 3rd? weekend. That just means that more people saw it quickly than they are now.
FYI: The numbers actually are:
"Bruce Almighty" = $85.7 million.
"The Matrix Reloaded" = $45.6 million.

Morgan Freeman is God, hands down! ^.^ Other than, I really wouldn't see Bruce Almighty, I'm not a really big Carrey fan... ^.^;

But, if you note the number Freeman dials while he is God... that's a real phone number! ^.^ The movie studio made a boo-boo.... and now everyone is calling people all over with that number, but different area codes, and asking for God!!! ^.^

776-2323 if I remember correctly.
Morgan Freeman is God, hands down!
Morgan Freeman makes a great God, but I don't think any God will ever compare to Alanis Morisette's version.
