Ouch, Ouch, Ouch....... at least the monitor survived. Ok, the little page you set up was cryptic, what happened with a bookshelf?
I had bought a set of pre-fab heavy wooden (not particle board) bookshelves to put together for my bedroom as I always have tons of books stacked next to the bed in front of my nightstand. When the car was rear-ended and the trunk pushed in, it knocked the bookshelves THROUGH the rear driver's side seat, breaking the car seat my 2-year-old would normally sit in.

Is that clearer?

Also, my wife is pushing me to get an SUV. She has a Mountaineer. Anyone have any good recommendations if I don't want to spend a fortune?

Depends on what "a fortune" is to you, sir. Look for a ~2002 Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon, which you can usually get with decently low mileage and nice options for less than $17k.

Infin. That drag coefficient for the Fiero is for the first year. When it got the revised nose in 86 it dropped down to .32 or .34 I dont remember which.

I guess a 'fortune' for me would be over $35k. Also, I have two little girls who would need car seats in the back. If an SUV isn't the best idea, I like sedans but that's about it.

Oh, well, under $35k you have all kinds of options! If you need the extra cargo space in the back, look at the Chevy Suburban. If you can shave off about 2 feet (easier to park, better fit into most garages, easier to maneuver in traffic, etc), go with a Tahoe or Yukon. On the Ford side, the newer Expeditions are quite nice. As far as sedans go, I highly recommend the Infinity G35 Sedan.

Otherwise, one thing you may consider is a 4-door truck, such as one of the new Ford F150sor Nissan Titan, as you trade covered rear cargo space and a 3rd row seat for open-air cargo space for carrying around stuff that won't fit under the ceiling (mainly furniture, appliances, and dirty stuff you don't have to worry about mucking up the interior like sod and bags of mortar, etc).

Well crap. My wife and I just bought a brand new Toyota Highlander. It retailed for 31,900, and we were able to talk em down to 29,900 pretty easily. Thats with the V-6 4wd, loaded with options. Has a 3rd row seat that folds down real nice and flat, lots of cargo space, real easy to get child seats in (have a 7mo. old.). That and its built on the camry platform, so it rides like a car. Very comfy seats, love the interior look, and has very nice power. Feels more like a car than an SUV. We drove everything before that too, and we fell in love with this. Just my 2c.

Call it whatever you want, it made my wife happy since its called an SUV, and it made me happy because it rides like a car and not like all the other suvs, plus its comfy for my 6'3" height.

Heh, I like that. If only I could supercharge it....

I can whole heartedly reccomend the Suburban, I'm on my second! You can get a nice one for less than thirty five grand. My brother bought a leftover 03' at the beginning of this year for something like $27K with 20 miles on it... The 2000 up models get great gas mileage, about 20-21 miles to the gallon on the highway. I really would love a 3/4 ton with the Duramax and the Allison, pity GM doesn't see the wisdom in making them, GRRRR!

I know Infin8cyn hates them, but have you ever tried towing a boat with a subcompact?

As for the four door trucks, I've heard good things about the Nissan Titan, it supposedly has a peppy engine and a very quiet cabin.

I give a word of warning: if there are very few truck owners amongst your aquatances, you'll be the one gettting constantly asked to haul stuff. Less than two weeks after I put plates on my 'burb, I had a neighbor show up at 7AM asking me to pick up a snowblower from Lowe's...
