why to NOT play the billion sweeps contest
Re: why to NOT play the billion sweeps contest
okay, so it seems that some of you are missing my point to the whole thing, sure there is a chance you will, but there is also a chance you will be struck by lightning EVERY time a thunderstorm rolls through. and as far as the free pepsis go, i'm sure that those are on distinct tops, not ones with codes, and i currently am yet to find one, and i've gone through about 30 or so of the tops (hey the contest has only been here for a little over a week) so i just either have EXTREMELY bad luck, or there is a truck full of pepsi driving around somewhere with cases full of the winning tops. and with no way for one single person to prove all these odds they are claiming, i personally think its just a way for pepsi to push more product to the non-pepsi drinkers, cus hey, when you go to store to buy a drink, why not pick the one that will give you a chance to win a billion dollars or whatever, right? right. can i get a round of applause for pepsi's marketing department.

do or don't the desision has been made, it's how you get there that matters
"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: whatever is soft is strong."

thats why i dont understand the no purchase necessary clause, that they all have. what if everyone boycotted buying the specially marked packages and ALL sent in for the free game piece, then they are screwed
Agreed. All candy/soda sweepstakes are created just to boost sales. If sweepstakes didn't boost sales, then companies would not do them.[/quote]i personally think its just a way for pepsi to push more product to the non-pepsi drinkers

Every sweepstakes I've ever seen has a "no purchase necessary" clause attached to it. M&M's, Recess, Milky Way, Coke, they all had it. I'm sure it runs it has its risks. I'm sure that these risks have been taken into consideration before Pepsi (and these other companies) spent the millions to get the sweepstakes up and running in the first place.

these odds are pointless in the first place, due to the nature of the way they draw entries. They pull out 75 or so names every week, from the pool of codes that have been entered in. Odds of winning are 100% dependent on the number of codes entered in. Odds will no doubt decrease as time goes on, but if everyone thought it was pointless and DIDN'T enter codes in, the odds of winning would be disproportionately high. So no bashing on the contest now.

It is required by law to have that 'no purchase necessary' clause in any sweepstakes giveaway. I believe it is in the UCC. Only state that might get away with not having it in there is Louisiana, since they don't comply with the UCC.

How to Win a Contest
examples courtesy of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
Buy hundreds of cases of Specially-Marked Product (SMP) and hire sweatshop-workers to unwrap/uncap each one until they find a winner.
Change your eating habits until you win, then go right back to your old habit.
Just buy as much of SMP product as you usually do because you're a glutton.
Find a buck on the street, buy SMP, and get really lucky because you're a nice, deserving-yet-underpriveleged person.
anyone wanna remind me how Mike Teevee pulled it off? I haven't seen Willy Wonka in the longest time... even though I was born on Gene Wilder's birthday
