This is getting insane... I thought the debate would be over the second that greg and lizzie stepped in and showed our dear shroom that prices are indeed expensive.
i'll just pop in my 2 cents in the middle of one of the most heartfelt debates ive seen in a long time-
the tech bubble, or so its called, burst a couple of years back. they say that the money is gone- but is it? plenty of people are still plopping down fat wads of cash for advertisements and such. Personally, I don't see why. But if they want to pay the cash, and Greg wants the cash, who is gonna stop them? Sheesh... I dont see what the big deal is... and yea, youre being rude. Hes making some good money off of a great site, no reason to bash him for it.

Thats really a misconception, in my opinion. The tech bubble didn't burst as much as did the thousands of half-assed and poorly planned, ran, and financed dot.commers who would have died eventually anyway, due to the above mentioned problems with their core buisness structure. I'm just glad it happened sooner than later, before more of the public got hooked on the idea of "all-web services".
And I am, for one, all for screwing over morons for as much money as you can get. Its just the WAY that Greg currently has it setup was so insanely laughable at the time that I felt it was worth note. He really should comment that the 'set' costs are flexable, and that certain 'bargin' deals are made available. And several other comments which were already made.
I'm done. Anything else I could say has been said in a much better and more educated fashion by the great minds and artists over at RocketBox.
Edit: And don't any of you little buggers go over there and fill it up with spam, or I'll set Devil Cymbal Monkey on yas.

While Greg's prices seem expensive, when compared with similar setups they're fairly normal (sorry if you took my post the wrong way
).
As for more ideas for advertising, there is always the option of Greg doing guest strips for other comics, either in an exchange of comics, or just Greg doing a guest strip for other people. This is a good way to get RealLife coverage towards the target audience, without being obvious about it.
Also, have you got any utilities that keep track of how many click-through's a banner gets? You might want to code that so you can use it for your own knowledge and/or so you can let companies have access to that info
Just a couple of ideas

The big difference:
And thats all she wrote, as they say."We can sell ads at a flat, monthly rates or by number of impressions. Or, if you're an online retailer, we can try to work out a commission deal. We're flexible like that."

Not to be mean here, but Greg and I are doing alot of things in the background here, that none of you see. We are planning on doing some contests to make sure that advertisers get click throughs... kinda like scavenger hunts and so forth. The prizes we have in mind are incredible too. I have been researching what companies have been advertising alot recently and we have been contacting them. Then we do follow ups and send out more media packets. Mostly the stuff on the web is for companies that we might not have found that do the majority of their business online. Such as T-shirt companies...ect. We are also thinking of doing a less pricey advertisement run too. Where each day's comic will be sponsored by someone for like $15. So the other comic artists who want to advertise can put $15 in and have their name and link in the news box. Then its a one-time deal and not nearly as expensive.

I'd hunt through infinite ads just to get my hands on the elusive Shirt Ninja Wallpaper Featured In A Comic!!
Just, please, no pop-up ads. I already block them with Safari, but now some sites wont let me on because I block them. Damn them all to hell!!

And they all lived hapilly ever after
sorry, it had to be done...
My two cents: I think that greg is being perfectly rational with his ad prices, an if he's working on getting clients I think he should not have many problems with his "Real Life" franchise
Good Luck to ye Greg.

Not to be mean here, but if it was posted and commented on more, we WOULD, like some webcartoonists. And that'd actually start conversations of worth in the forum, not to mention bring us all together as a community.
Of course, having been here, I can hardly blame you all for NOT poking your heads into the forum\irc.

Ah, I live for these moments.Personally, as a long time reader - and long time forum troll (never posted before today)... I am ashamed of you people who call yourselves fans of reallifecomics.
Quick tip for your next post: Make sure you read BEYOND the first post made in a thread. And make sure you read the first post ALL THE WAY THROUGH. No one here berated Greg for getting cash, at least no one worth mentioning. As far as the prices, we've already gone over that: Its not the overall cost, its the blatant optimistic and rather rigid form he originally posted it up as.Now.. you FAN/FRIENDS come in here and berate him for trying to get some $$ out of the site? I am sad for you. His prices may be more than YOU can afford, but I would guess that he's not looking for YOU to buy an advert.
I think we're done here.

The worst is that it gets even funnier if you read further.
