Re: The Interesting Person's Book List
I just got my hands on a "new" Ender series book, I haven't been able to read it yet, but I think it was called First Meetings (I just checked). Anyways its got four short stories including the original Ender's Game.
I've been hooked on some really excellent stuff from John Ringo A Hymn Before Battle (free online e-book from the publisher). Its some of the best military sci-fi I've read. Theres four books in the series altogether but if you buy the latest one, Hell's Faire, which is still in hardcover, you get a cd-rom that has the whole series as e-books. The cd also has a few other goodies like a d20 game based on the books, and some e-books from other authors.
The Miles Vorkosigan books from Louis McMaster Bujold are also really good.
*edited* sorry adding to the necro I didn't see that the post in front of Ender's was in Feb,.

If I can get you to laugh with me, you like me better, which makes you more open to my ideas. And if I can persuade you to laugh at the particular point I make, by laughing at it you acknowledge its truth.

Neuromancer - William Gibson
Idoru - William Gibson
Snow Crash - Neil Gaiman, I think.
1984 - Orwell
The Talisman - Steven King
Black House - Steven King
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Ender's Shadow - Orson Scott Card
Rise and Fall of the Third Reich - I don't remember (nonfiction)
We are all in agreement that the newest Wheel of Time book sucked massive syphilitic testicles, right? For that matter, the last three have, as well.

Here I am, to sing you a song. And there you are, asleep against the windowpane, just like always.

4) The Return of the King--still Tolkien
5) The Silmarillion--Tolkien and Son
6) Maps in a Mirror: A Collection of Short Stories by Orson Scott Card
7) In the Eye of the Storm-- John H. Groberg (the basis for "The Other Side of Heaven")
Tennis Shoes Adventure Series: Tower of Thunder--Chris Heimerdinger
9) The Forgotten Carols--Michael McLean
10) Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back script--Kevin Smith
Availability:
1-4 and 6, I got from the local library (I printed out December 18 '02 for the library staff)
5 was on sale at Target
7-9 --Deseret Books (or similar Mormon bookstore)
10 --Virgin Megastore

In the fall of 1972 President Nixon announced that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing. This was the first time that a sitting president used the third derivative to advance his case for reelection. - Hugo Rossi, Mathmetician.
StarShip Troopers - Tom Clancy
That book was awesome, i read it last year and its awsome. Its like a sci fi, political, war book. A little somthing for the whole croud.
The Green Berets
I dont remember the auther of this book, I think its somthing webster. But after reading starship troopers, i wanted to read another war book, so i read it. Good read.
1984 - George Orwell
Great Great Great Great Book. A prediction of the future from the 1940's i think, really makes you think. I mean this guy predicted TV's! Everyone should read it. All George Orwell books are great.
I keep forgetting and adding books
Farenheit 451 - Ray BradBury
Another classic. Just Amazing. In a way its like 1984, again it really makes you think. In this book all books are banned. And it takes the point of view of a person tha burns the books.

Re: The Interesting Person's Book List
A MUST read for anyone who loves a good educated thriller!!!
READ the DeVinci code by Dan brown. Right now. Don't waste any more time. go out and read it RIGHT NOW!
And read Angels and Demons. Technically, A&D comes first, but they can be read in either order. You will NOT be sorry! I promise you!
Trust me, I am doing you all a favor.
1) go to the bookstore
2) read the first page.
3) strike that, read the first paragraph!
4) become hooked
5) say to self, "self, why have I never heard of this book?"
6) proceed to checkout
7) send dreamer a cookie with your thanks.

Everyone reads the Ender saga, but no one bothers to try Mr. Card's other books.. which are equally (and sometimes better) stories. Depending on your tastes, of course. The following are more fantasy than Scifi, so if that's not your cup of tea, then pay no attention to me
Alvin Maker saga - about a kind hearted Smithy who seeks to fulfill a "Red-man's" prophecy.
Worthing Saga - (forgot the plot of the book.. will have to read it again.)
