Absinthe is/was dangerous for 1 reason. It contains a hillusingen, or it used to. I'm sure they don't put THC in it anymore for health and legal reasons. In the bohemian days of europe it was used by poets and artists for "inspiration" .. aka: they'd drink it, have weird visions and write about them.

Yeah, a long time ago when absinthe was really popular, it took only about 3 or 4. I had the chance to drink absinthe and I would have taken the oppertunity too if it hadn't been brown. I'm not drinking brown absinthe! I'll probably wait till I'm in europe before I drink any absinthe... though I've heard it tastes like black liquorish (sp?) which would probably count me out since I don't like the taste of black liquorish.

THC? Noooooo...
THC is a cannabinol. It's what gets you high in weed.
You're thinking of thujone, a mild hallucinogenic present in wormwood, which is in turn a major ingredient in absinthe.
They still make it with thujone and all, by the way. It's always been in quite low doses, although it's suspected to be slightly neurotoxic at higher doses and with chronic use. If it is, it's a very slight effect. You'd be suprised how many common items share the same trait. Three glasses won't make Layla retarded, nor would thirty.
Edit: Hallucinogenic? Of COURSE I know how to spell hallucinogenic.

The closest thing I've had to Absinthe is Pastis, which is also an anisette liquer that also needs to be watered down to be able to enjoy its pleasures... however eventually I plan on trying absinthe myself as I've heard very interesting things about the stuff and the flavours you can get...
And AuroraMystic, since both of the drinks mentioned above are anisette liquers (and anisette is what gives black licorice its distinct flavour) you may not like either one.... sorry....

There are few problems in this world that can't be solved by small amounts of plastic explosives and large amounts of duct tape. - Anon
