Isoprophyl Alcohol, most likely.

When I was growing up (early 70s) My parents were poor so toys were rare. I have two hot wheels of particular significance (one is the big van from the Megaforce movie, the other is KITT from Knight Rider).

Most of my other toys I had to build. I remember reading a book about a laser gun and the book had a picture. I took the picture, went out into the garage, took some spare wood my father said I could use, used his power tools and power sander and glue and nails and ended up making a perfect model of the thing. If I had had paint it would have been best, but my folks would let me play with power tools but not paint. (why? I have no clue.) The thing was 4 feet long, which was about as tall as myself at the time. I took an old belt of my father's, screwed it to the gun so it had a shoulder strap, and that thing went with me everywhere. It has been lost to time, however.

This is Yaya (aka Stinky). He's my first teddy, and he's still alive! He has NO fur left, and his ears have been sucked off about 4 times, so now he has weird dark green triangle ears. His face is long gone, so he has embroidered eyes, nose and mouth. He's covered in stitching where mum has had to patch him up, and eventually where I patched him up too.

As embarrassing as it is, I have to tell you what he smells like, or rather, what I told everyone he smelled like when I was about 5. I was asked the question, and I said "Wee wee, poo poo, and hamburgers".

*grin*

eeep! Poor Emma! I am glad you kept him though. I suspect he has aired out a bit since then :)

My favorite was a bunny that I got the day my sister was born. It is the first toy that I remember picking out by myself. This, of course, is me at 2 years old with my bunny. I still have bunny but the mouth was chewed by a dog and replaced with pink flannel. I cried SOOOO much after finding my chewed up bunny. Dad was good and fixed it right away or I would not go to bed. Much of the fur is also worn off now.

Here is Purrty.

Image

He was (is!) my favorite toy, and I dragged him around with me for years.

Then when I was 8, my uncle came to visit us. He was in his late 20s or so, trying to get through college, and living out of his car. I was horrified that he had no HOME, so I gave him Purrty for company.

He kept Purrty in his car (and swears that my little cat brought him luck) for 12 years. Then, when I was 20 years old and leaving home to start life on my own, he gave Purrty back to me, saying that he hoped the kitty would bring me as much luck as it had him.

That is a way cool story.

My favorite toy is also a stuffed teddy bear, a very nice one who went with me on lots of adventures. I even gave a speech about him last week! (No, I'm not joking.) I was afraid the plane ride might make his head fall off, so I don't have him right now. :(

I'm far too lazy to take a picture, so instead I steal one:

well, not really "steal" since I took the picture in the first place.

I still wonder what happened to my first cabbage patch doll... I was in fourth grade when they became EXTREMELY popular and I just HAD to have one... my mom finally agreed, around the time they were near to impossible to find... on the night I was having some silly girl scout ceremony my mom heard that Bradlees near us was getting in a shipment that night... she agreed to go get me one instead of going to the ceremony... I was so happy...
When she brought the doll home later that evening she had bruises all over her arms and she had a black doll... well, not that I'm racist, but all my friends had white dolls and that's what I'd wanted (not to mention I grew up in an area with only 1 black kid in town, was a little weird)... she explained that apparently whenever she'd grab a doll in the mob another woman would grab it from her, push her, etc... she finally grabbed this one out of another womans hands and ran! It was the last one left in the store! Her name was Yettie Tess and she became my FAVORITE!

Before her though I had a stuffed fox named Foxess... she went everywhere with me, including into the hospital when I had to have surgery on my ears at 8 years old... she even went into the operating room with me... thhey gave her a mask and everything so to try and calm me down... when I woke up from surgery Foxess was sitting there watching me and they had even bandaged her head just like mine!

little people were the best toy before they made them so big you couldn't swallow them. also they uset to make like one sound per building, like when you open the barn door it would go moo once. Now the farmer is to big to choke on and the farm makes like 10 sounds taking the imagination away. good thing i still have my old ones.
