Don't run Windows. I believe SYSTEM32 is a part of the Windows Operating System. You might get away with editting your registry (if you are both brave and stupid) as it says in this article:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1054530641
But I don't recommend it.

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.

Why wouldn't you want system32 to start up? Is it crashing? Causing you problems? Do you suspect its a viral app using the "system32" name to mask itself?I DONT WANT SYSTEM32 TO COME UP HOW DO I FIX IT
I don't use XP, but I am pretty sure system32 is a vital system process...
When you bring up your task manager is system32 listed as process or an application? If its a process, it's most likely an OS thread that's hands off. You could always stop the process and see what happens (but I don't think the system will let you)...

System 32 has been a windows process since it went 32 bit, ie win 95.

Shadow, do I call you retarded now, or later?
System32 = Necessary for windows to run. If you don't like System32, then switch to Linux.

Yelling about it isn't going to help much.
Perhaps you can provide a screenshot of the problem. Pressing Alt-PrtScrn when a popup box or window is selected will save an image of it in the clipboard; pressing PrtScrn on its own will copy an image of the entire screen. You can then open MSPaint, paste it into a new file, and save it (preferably as a GIF or JPG), and then upload it to somewhere you can link to so we can all see it and provide you with more detailed help.

If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.
Try using alt-ctrl-del to shut it down.
THEN see what happens.
Crashes, doesen't it?
That's why it shuts itself down when Windows feels like crashing.

that should be a simple fix.. in XP go to start menu, then all programs and the startup menu. there should be a thing under that called system32 with the folder icon. just right click and delete it.
I really need a new sig....

One of two things is happening:
1. You're leaving it open before logging out. Windows retains some memory of past Explorer windows that were open when the user is logged out.
2. You have something requesting the opening somewhere. Look in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\<user_id>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
If this is happening for all users, check the former. If it's just for you, check the latter. Look for a shortcut that points to the given location.
There may also be a registry entry for some reason that points to it. Look in the following key for a line pointing to it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
These are specific to Windows 2000, which you appear to have. This is not likely slowing your computer all that much, though, since it's just loading a few icons and a file list, and Explorer is already running. A quick way to test it is to log out, then log in, but hold down the Shift key while it's logging you in. This will prevent anything in the Startup folders, but not the registry, from loading. That may give you a pointer to the location.

Schiffi: I don't know how familiar you are with windows, but if you leave the control panel open when you shut down, it'll pop back up when you turn the pc on. I don't know if the MAC likes to save a workspace like that, but windows does. I think Martin forgot option 3
3. You're just hitting and holding power off to turn off. If you do this, windows forgets the changes you made, sortof like when you move icons around and then when you come back, they went to where they were. Now if you go to START then SHUT DOWN your computer problem will be fixed.
Silly Martin.
