Useless as a chocolate fireguard

Post by Rorschach » Tue Jul 15, 2003 7:24 pm

Good evening
Once again I come before you to beg that you may furnish me with wisdom.
Here it is:
I would like to change my avatar
I find an image I like on google and then I have no idea how to resize it
I have a friend who would normally do it for me but I'd like to know how myself whilst at the same time being very, very lazy
Are there any good imagey-type programmes I can use to reduce a piccie down to 100x100 without it assuming I just want the corner of the thing like an orphaned jigsaw piece?
My thanks in advance

In most image editting programs theres a resize option. In Paintshop Pro, I know that you can choose the exact amount of pixels to resize it to, the percentage, and the type of method for resizing.

I'm using 'Imaging for Windows' and 'Paint' and I can't seem to find that option on either?

I place little faith in either of them having it, as they're both rather basic programs.

Jansoft used to have a great freeware program called formati that I frequently use to do basic resizing and image conversion.

Jansoft. THe only problem is that most of the links to the program are dead...

It's hard to find now, and I don't know why. You might google for it. If you can't find it, I think I may have the install app laying around my hard drive somewhere. PM me if you want it. It's freeware, so there's no problem sharing.

Some people can't afford Photoshop, and it's extreme overkill for a simple image resize, anyway. There are dozens of small utilities out there that can do image resizing.

I imagine some of these might do the trick.

If you have microsoft office, even office 97 has this thing you only get if you do custom install, it's called Microsoft Image Editor. It has some nice features, but you can't do anything like draw circles or whatever you can with paint, so it's a good thing for images (with its blur, resize, sharpen, stuff) but not for drawing (like in paint)

Totally OT, but meh.

A chocolate fireguard is more useful than you think. You can eat it. :)

Isn't there a free 'trial' version of PSP? As far as i can recall it is only supposed to last for 30 days, but it doesn't stop you from continuing to use it...

EDIT: try the download page on the JASC website
