I Heard Creatives Zen is a close 2nd, if that is any help.

there are CD-MP3 players so you can play CDR, CDRW, MP3 CDs, and just plain old CDs and they are around $100 USD

I've got a Zen and it's marvellous. Apart from a few bugs with the firmware (which I hope they sort out soon) I'm very happy with it. mmmm... 20Gb of mp3 goodness...

the Creative Nomad Jukebox II might be a good bet, they're $166 at Mwave and have 10GB storage, no USB2.0 or Firewire though unfortunately.

I'm sorry to say this, but iPods are the best. That's why they cost so much, cause they're the best. Maybe you can get a 2nd Gen 10Gig under $200. But, they are the best.

Why are they the best? Eh? Eh? Perhaps you're just under the illusion that they're the best because you can't bear to think you've paid so much for something under par? ;)

Nah, I know iPods are good. But Zen's are pretty darn spanking too. You can even replace the hard drive quite easily apparently. :shifty:

Are you really sorry to say it?
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

I place a suprisingly large amount of doubt in him actually being apologetic.

I just use my phone - Orange SPV Smartphone with Windows shoved inside. Files are usually in .wma format - about half as small as the equivalent mp3. Only have a 256Mb memory card, but thats more than enough for most journeys - plus I can watch movies on it and play games and stuff :D

Yea, it's been said a few times already, but iPods are the best, quality-wise that is. (And their cool value can't really be beat either)

However, if you're looking for the best bang for buck value, I'd look for a nice mp3 cd player. I used to have a really nice Panasonic one, but due to some minor misshapennings, I lost it...well I know where it is? but it doesn't work anymore...darn.

/me envys Schiffi (I wish I had an iPod)

Not like I haven't said it before, but agreed. iPod's pwn. As for the cdplayer - mp3 cdplayers, they're alright, but not good by any means. I've got a decent panasonic one, the problem they seem to have, is that, MOST have small screens since they're not full fledged mp3 players, SOOO.... if you wanna see what the next track is on your 190file MP3 Cd, you really can't. Some found ways around this problem, but none handle them like the iPod, or any real good fashion so they're makeshift to say the least.
