GFX Card Search: radeon 9600
GFX Card Search: radeon 9600
I'm going to be building a new comp for myself, and I wanted a good gfx card to buy. I'm a serious gamer, so I want speed and graphics plus I do a lot of 3d Studio Max and video editing work. I am thinking about getting a radeon 9600 Pro, any thoughts or opinions?
My budget is around 200, and today I was searching on newegg.com and found a radeon 9600 pro for $179

I would have to say that the Radeon 9600 pro would have to be the best choice for you, unless you can find a decently priced Radeon 9500 pro. The 9500 pro is a better card, but since ATI stopped producing them. They are hard to find..

How is the 9500 better?

Re: GFX Card Search: radeon 9600
The radeon 9500 pro(not the non-pro though you could softmod it to make it a 9700 if it has the same pcb lay out as the 9700) is better because it is based on the same pcb as the radeon 9700. The radeon 9600/pro is a new chipset with 4 pixel pipelines opposed to the 8 pixel pipelines of the 9500 pro. The 9500 pro was costing to much to make for ATI and make a good profit. The 9600/pro was to help ATI make some money because it uses 4 pixel pipelines and the .13 micron process is lower expenses too. That is why the 9500 pro is better. Although you can overclock the 9600pro to extreme amounts because of the smaller .13 micron than the .15 micron.

That's a great big assumption there, DJ.. -- He may actually have a job where his employer has provided him with that software, or, like me, he may actually *have* to buy software (no, I don't have nor do I need 3dS-Max) for his business purposes. But, I do own a legal copy (3 in fact) of office XP for my biz.. -- Just cause *you* can't afford 3dsMax doesn't mean he can't.
