Ctrl C Ctrl V stopped working?

Post by vixendrop » Mon Jul 21, 2003 3:38 am

I am posting this question for a friend of mine, so forgive me if I don't have all the EXACT details.

The other day Jason was trying to edit some music and then copy and paste the bits after they were seperated... the first four tracks worked fine, ctrlc copied and ctrl v pasted... but after the first four the ctrl c and ctrl v stopped working... he would have to restart to get them to work again... he's wondering why this would happen... his computer is about a year old I think... 900mhz I believe and 512 megs of RAM

Any ideas?

I had the same problem happen when I was creating a fairly large bmp full of screen shots. What was happening was that the clipboard actually stopped responding to the app I was working on (for reasons I am unsure of)

After ctrl-c, ctrl-v stopped responding in this particular app, could you use it in another program? If so, then try saving your work and closing your app. When you re-open it, your clipboard should respond again.

That usually works for me. It's a band-aide and not a solution... but if someone has a better idea, it would be useful to me as well.

Actually considering this friend that isn't completely unthinkable ~laughs~ but I don't think he meant the keys *themselves* didn't work... just the actual copying
I still wonder if he tried the other ctrl key too, cause still. may have been just the one.
I know the answer to this one! He tried using the other key, it didn't work either... he even tried using the copy/paste from the menu and it wouldn't work either.

I think they may have still worked in other programs... he may have meant he had to restart that program, I thought he meant he had to restart the computer... I am pretty sure he's just annoyed because it took him 4 times longer to finish what he was trying to do!

In the windows 98 days, this meant your OLE Links were damaged. Offhand I don't remember the repair, but it was not as simple as a reboot. Though for temporary failing, I suggest a reboot...
