I read the whole set of comics about Greg learning Japanese and it reminded me of an interesting little phrase in one of my Japanese books(Hey you can never have enough! ^^; ). And since there doesn't seem to be anything dedicated such things*looks around for admins with sniper rifles, keeping his redeemer on hand* ^^;

Anywho..the phrase is as follows(with translations!)
Ara, obaasan wa mata fuhai-tanku ni ochikomimashita yo.
In english it's as follows.
Dear me, grandmother has fallen into the septic tank again!

Just a little note that the particle "yo" at the end of the sentence acts as a spoken exclaimation mark.

Anyway I found that rather amusing(it's under the "Bunkei" section, or Pattern Sentences.). I can just imagine this sentence being used everyday conversations.
"Ohh yeah...grandmother falls in the septic tank ALL the time!" *chuckles*

Gah...years of inuse is slowly killing my Japanese skills. X.x And I used to be nearly fluent too! Ohh well least I can still read basic kanji and kana.

Wait..... Ara is a real word? I thought it was just a little noise that wasn't actually a word

And about your sig... I'm kinda reading it "my panties is.." I know doko desu ka from somewhere... I just can't remember what!

that is what you asked... or at least I think so... doku desu ka 'where are they" or I know doku is 'where' and 'desu ka' is for a question.

Yes Talon, I asked "Where are my pants". Watashi no pantsu(my pants) wa(particle that pretty much means "as for is") doko desu ka(where).

Mwhaha pantsless power! *does a little jig*

*looks around and clears his throat* Anyway.. ^^;;;;

Aza, the word for panties is Panchi(written in katakana, just like pantsu). Also the word for pepsi is pepushi(also written in katakana, because it's a foreign word).

And Talon since hashi can me a few different things(brige, chosticks, and so on) I'm a bit confused. X.x lol The only one problem of writing in romaji.

I better explanation of the Japanese final particle, "yo," is that it's exactly like the English final particle, "yo." I bet you didn't know that, yo.

Umm... pantsu can also be translated as briefs.

So you could also be asking where your underwear is!

Lith just looked this up, because lith is currently translating Chobits manga 2+3 to practice her japanese over the summer.

Ecchi it is, and read it not will lith's little brother!!!

Well Lith my Japanese english dictionary says pants(it's a pocket dictionary so it's kinda limited), but I don't doubt pantsu could also be taken for underwear, just not for panties, because panchi is the word for that(if you've ever heard the dragonball song "Muten Roshi No Oshie" he sings about panchi..lol ^^;; ).

Anywho*watches Lith's animated gif thing of Asuka and runs in terror* AHHHH SHE'S GONNA KILL ME!

I'm not crazy....that's just the caffeine talking....^^;;;;;

and if you ever want to learn japanese from anime, i reccomend Chobits, cause he teaches Chii how to talk, and what things are. Not that that helps me with the spelling, but...

Lith is currently translating Chobits manga, but, in the series, Chii does go around now asking for 'pantsu' remember?

Pantsu is either panties or briefs, but lith assumed that Ryuu was a guy.

Ryuu, you really should know where you put your panties!

[/quote]Well, it's more of a sound effect. It's kinda like a verbalized "huh?" or "Dear me" or "Oh my"/an indication of mild surprise.

btw, while "yo" at the end of a sentence is often the verbal equivalent of an exclamation point, it's also used in explanations, in the n + (plain form verb OR desu) + yo construction, eg, "Ryuu-san no panchi wa asoko n da yo/n desu/n desu yo" = "Ryuu's panchi are over there", said as an explanation.
