The picture saving dilemma.

Post by Lune [6 Option Mod] » Fri Jul 25, 2003 9:33 pm

I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

Simply, anything and everything that I try to save through my web browser -- any web browser I use -- becomes a Bitmap, no matter what it originally was. A JPEG, a PNG, a GIF ... it all becomes BMP for some odd reason.

And it's been like this for a while. It didn't bother me until only recently, when I've tried to save animated files, or other such pictures.

Can anyone help me out with this problem, please?

I'm gonna assume you have Windows Internet Explorer...
Ok can you open an image in a new window and then choose "Save as..." in the file menu?
Did someone say booya?

Well, let's see ...

::Opens Schiffi's avatar in a new Internet Explorder window.::

... ...
... ... doesn't work. I can do that and I can choose "Save as ...", but it still only lets me save the picture as a BMP.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com and join the newusers forum. They answer this, and other questions, on a daily basis. GREAT resource for help with computer problems.

I just got this off Microsoft's site regarding saving images. I hope this helps.

FROM: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com

Clear your Temporary Internet Files, then try again. To do so to IE/Internet
Options/Delete Files.
Also in Settings change the amount to 40 MB.
This will help in preventing the index files from becoming overloaded.

If that doesn't help check your settings here: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and
navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg. For Content Type, it should read image/jpeg.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg For content Type, it should read: image/jpeg.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif For Content Type is should read image/gif.

NOTE: If you are using AOL: This behavior may occur when AOL's graphic
compression option is turned on. When this option is on, the images are
saved as the .art file type.

Connect to the Internet through AOL, and then visit the following AOL Web
site: http://www.aol.com. Click My AOL. On the Settings menu, click Preferences. In
the Preferences dialog box, click Internet Options (WWW). In the Internet
Options dialog box, click to clear the Always Compress Graphics dialog box.
Click to select the Never Compress Graphics dialog box. Click Apply, and
then click OK.

I have an easier way.

Open MSpaint, and load all different filetypes into it (Gif, JPEG, PNG) and it'll work fine.
I had that dream again. My world was black as night. Plagued by visions of a future world, I sang about these dreams, warning man of his demise. Wasted words that no one heard...

I know the truth is out there...
