There is already a restaurant (I forget where, back in New England I think, but I could be way off) that *is* calling them Freedom fries... personally I think it's a cool idea... I have nothing against France personally... but I see no harm in updating some names of foods to show some pride in America ~smiles~

I fail to see the problem, its just a name for a common food. Seriously no one is advocating that we pass a law banning the name "French fries."
Oh, and do at least use proper grammar when calling people idiots. I'm not one of those grammar NAZI's but if your going to call someone an idiot make sure your own ass is covered.

Yeah, and weren't hamburgers called "Liberty Patties" during WWII?
On O'Brien the other night they were discussing this and he mentioned that Geraldo will from now on be known as "France".

Bleh. French fries, liberty fries - who gives a shit?
Personally, I'm a conservative 'french fry' person.

If some restaurant named their fries "Greasy sticks of cardboard", I'd steal the menu and frame it.

Im not bashing the people who are calling them "Freedom Fries" for them hell of it but Im bashing the ones who are calling them "Freedom Fries" for hating France. All because France doesnt want their men coming home in body bags, that doesnt mean we should hate them. My position on the war (As if anyone cares) is no. Im anti-war anyway though.

"Patriotism is the belief that your country is superior to all others by virtue of you being born in it."
Lol, I love it! I really never did understand patriotism. It's far too divisive for my tastes. I care for the well-being of every soul in the world, not just the ones that so happen to be contained within some lines drawn by some guy a couple hundred years ago. I'd prefer we were ALL united, not just some of us.
What really gets me is when people act like you're anti-american if you're not patriotic. People need to calm down.

Hmm, some people don't seem to grasp that its a joke referencing the WWI ethic of renaming or banning everything associated with German culture.
Are you sure the guy who suggested it wasn't joking as well?

Benjamin Franklin said being patriotic is questioning your government. Not in those exact words though. And some of people who call them freedom fries are doing it for blind hate of the French. Not all, just some.

Pleh. Isn't it a government's job to act in the best intrests of its people? Gee, who would have thought that sending your white children off to die fighting other people's brown children was in the best intrests of your nation! It's stupid to do it out of hating france. I hate france, mainly because they had no sanitation for years and years, but I am reminded of how Orwell used the renamings of food products (A practice adopted in world war II with Victory Cabbage, Freedom Patties and Victory Sausages) in 1984. In addition, I'd just like to sy that the American public are sheep, and prove me right more and more every day. If you resent this, TOO BAD do somthing about it!

Nick, Don't limit the "sheep" tag to Americans. As I have stated many times in my life, and at least half a dozen times in these forums, Stupidity is not contained or defined by racial, cultural, or continental boundries. There are stupid unwitting sheep everywhere you go, even Canada.
