This thread demonstrates exactly why people stick with Windows. Because things just *work*. I'm not saying people shouldn't use Linux, but it requires a great deal of knowledge and effort to set up correctly. Last time I had a Linux box, I ran into all these problems and more. It could take days to get an application installed and working.

Its always good to try and challenge yourself..... Linux is pretty challenging to use if you have no clue what you are doing.... Like me!

Actually I think this is a particularly bad, and frustrating for me, example.

Things dont just *work* any more in windows than linux, infact I'd say the opposite, I can install a linux distro much quicker than windows, and I dont get unique problems each time.

and learning is exopotentially more fun in linux.
So far everything I've learned about linux has mainly been through my own messing around. I can chew hours up at a time. In windows, everything is too well documented and so easy to use, no wonder AOL has found a niche.
I have just gotten my first taste of Linux (Red Hat 9.0) and I like it this may just be a duel boot machine but it is nice.... This OS just needs more games so can anyone point me to either an emulator for windows or some free Linux games?
Most people will tell you about WINE, but just in case nobody's mentioned it, TransGaming has their product "WineX" that's specifically designed for gaming. Check it out, if that's what you're wanting to use it for.

Once again this is completely inacurate. I try 'man bash' or 'man ls' or running things with --help

Try to install "WineX3" instead of Wine, because that version have a build-in DirectX support, wich is better to run games. I was able to Run Warcraft 3, Total Annihilation, Battlefield 1942, and a lot of other recent games properlly with that.
