Deploying to Iraq. Wish me luck!
Well she called me a few days ago and gave me an update. Apparently their commander decided they were too inexperienced to take bombs apart full time, so they're doing "UI Excercises" which means that they take them apart while someone else watches. I guess that's good, cuz it means there's not much of a chance of her getting blown up by cutting the red wire.
That also means she'll be comming back sooner, cuz keeping them there longer would just waste the Navy's time and money. She told me the first week of September sounds about right, after which she plans on taking a vacation back to Chicago and might come to visit me in Iowa.
She also said something about trying to get a "Permanent Duty Station" away from where she was at before, maybe on a ship or something. I don't know much about that, but she said either Virginia, California, or Japan. My guess would be Japan would be the best place, what with the speaking of Japanese and all.
She tells me that Iraq has to mean "hell" in some language, because that's the only thing that describes it. Like 120 degrees in the shade kind of hot. One day it got so hot her canteen melted shut and she had to poke a hole in the side with her knife to drink out of it. She says most of the people there are very friendly, despite what you hear on TV, and thank the soldiers every day for what they are doing. She says she enjoys playing with the Iraqi children in her off-time, whenever they go into town (she can't tell me where).
Well, that's about it for now. I'll keep you posted if she calls me again.
";p="137741"]Japan, huh?
I move to Japan for a year ... in a year.
What a coinkidink.
spiffyness... I lived in Japan for about 2 years when my dad got stationed there in Yokosuka. It's a really nice place, I'd love to visit it again.

Yay! P13! ^_____^
Yes, I've returned in one (whole) piece from the land of sand, heat, and more sand! (and heat) I'm not gunna go into too many details, but lets just say Iraq isn't a place I'm looking foreward to going back to.True we weren't there for nearly as long as the other teams, but it was enough to teach me how much it SUCKS to get stationed there. Well, I got back this morning at about 0400, and I've got some MAD jet lag, so I'l get back to y'all later. Ta ta!
*huggles everyone*
