New to anime

Post by DarkDream86 » Tue Aug 05, 2003 6:07 pm

The title pretty much explains it, I am new to the whole anime thing. I tried downloading .hack//signs but I only got the first episode...the rest all got flubbed up over night. From what I've seen of it it was pretty good, except if anyone could show me where to get non subtitled movies, and get ones dubbed in english (if they have them???).

I've been using kazaa but it is incredibly slow for downloading these movies, so if anyone knows of a site or someplace to download them without having to buy the movies Id be forever grateful.

Also seeing as I really dont know much about anime I have no clue which films to get. I thoguht I'd start with the .hack series. After that maybe try to get trigun? From there I have no clue. Like I said any help would be great, and thanks in advance.

Well, kazaa is probably your best bet for anime, though bittorent is also good. BitTorrent is a P2P program that runs directly out of your web browser. I use it, but I don't really know how it works. Perhaps a more computer-savvy member would be kind enough to post the details, as well as the link? (I forget where I downloaded it.)

Are you sure you only want to watch dubbed anime? In a lot of cases, the English voice acting is far inferior to the original Japanese, and there are some very good fan-subtitled episodes out there. Plus, a lot of really new anime, such as Gundam SEED and .hack//DUSK hasn't been dubbed yet (to my knowledge).

I really dont have a preference to dubbed or subtitled, just I guess it's easier to have dubbed. But if the quality is that much inferior it is probably not worth it. And thanks for the advice about the other P2P program, Ill look into it.

I don't mean to make a big morality debate, but I think downloading is wrong. Don't bother arguing. It would waste the time of all of us. I just had to say something.

One day, I went around my school and did a mini survey: Downloading or Stealing? 100% Downloading. Granted, records do cost too much, and it's easier just to download. I understand the reasoning. I just don't think it's right.

Thanks.

It's the only way to get newer anime like Gundam SEED.

Plus, $30 for a 3 or 4 episode DVD is ridiculous. Maybe downloads will force those corporate bastards to lower prices to a reasonable ammount.

30 bucks for something that 40+ people took months working on. Yeah, really overpriced.

Other DVDs that probably cost just as much to produce are much cheaper.

Thats your justification for stealing? Other DVD's, which are probably made by larger conglomerates, or bought in bulk, are cheaper?

Soth, if you're going to argue with everyone who downloads anime via P2P, you're going to be here for a while. :D

This isn't an argument against the practice as much as it is an argument against trying to justify it by saying "Oh, when the price goes down THEN I'll buy it.". Whether you'd buy it later or not doesn't change the fact that you're stealing it now.
