The new server

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

The new server

Post by Mae Dean » Fri Aug 08, 2003 2:50 am

So, what... NOBODY is gonna mention the fact that the server was running quickly today? HMPH! I see how it is!

Seriously though... I really just want feedback to see if you've noticed any sort of difference. I want to make sure it's not just my imagination, but since the ram went in, the server has seemed pretty damned fast.

Id have to admit the comic just KAPOWED at me this morning when checking it, normaly there is the long evil delay (usualy about 30secs to a min) before it decides to start loading. so I say...two cookies up!

I was surprised how fast the comic loaded. Then again, Reallife was always one of the fastest loaders on my rounds of comic reading.

Greg, I love you. When the screen came up in under two seconds I almost pissed my pants I was so surprised. Thank you so much! (for the new server, not that you almost made me wet myself :) )

....yeah, that sounded stupid. I know.

yes, the speed is greatly improved, it used to take 15 sec just to start loading, and I'm on cable, now it's FAST! Archives time!

So, we have consensus! Excellent to hear! *cheers* It's only gonna get better, too. Soon we can move the RLCDB over to this server, and make it a part of the site. :D

Oooh, speedy...

Oh right, opinion.
At Polytech, Sweet cable connection: I click, its there. Nuff said.

At home, lousy 56K dialup: Noticed a small speedup, but dial-up slows me down before I even get to the server. (NB, reading a post made with dial-up will NOT slow you down, so stop trying to close the page! I know what you're thinking.. (admittedly a problem when Billf, Lith et all show up))

I've gotten into the habit of opening two windows (tabs in Opera, whatever)... one to load Real Life and another to read the rest of the webcomics I read WHILE Real Life loads.

I went to do this today, and was shocked to see it loaded before i could get to the next webcomic! GOOD JOB! /me cheers

Well the thing is that I'm only visiting the comic's website when all of the inhabitants of USA-land are alseep, so the server have always been running smoothly for me.

I usually check in the early morning hours, so I got no appreciable difference, but I am on a T3 line here at work so I expect speed anyway. Glad to hear it is running good, though.

And like SuperMoo, I load up 8 comics at once. Real Life was the first one to load, though, so I should have noticed, but as I said, I get on really early.

I too pull up many comics, and I noticed that RL was exceptionally fast today... Great job Greg, the comic loaded before I could even sip my coffee. And that, mind you, if pretty damn fast.

To tell the truth, I didn't even notice until I saw this topic. Usually I just wait for the page to start loading, and do other stuff while I waited for it to take a minute to load. But when I went back and tried again...yeah, it was really fast. Good job.
