Windows can do both CD-R and CD-RW, but the way it goes about burning is really weird and non-intuitive. I can understand the method by which CD-R's are done to an extent, but CD-RW's should be treated like floppies.

I run Nero myself for CD-R, but I use DirectCD for CD-RW. It's the most reliable so far, though I've not tried InCD 4 yet.

A slight alternative is music match jukebox (yeah I know weird eh? But it came with a basic cd burning software though)
Nero is still my favorite burner software, but I dont own it so I cant use it (duh hehe)
So I just use the built in XP burner software. I have no problems at all with it and didnt have it rename my mp3s to the 8.3 format either :/
Although I do agree with martin and I wish it would let you do DirectCD thing where you can use it like a floppy.

Here's one that comes with full recommendations from TechTV:

or a direct link to the site:

I haven't tried it but it looks pretty good. And it's free.

have you thought about getting the free version of Nero? The only thing that's involved in the full version of Nero is burning to multiple recorders if I remember correctly. It does everything from data CD's to CD Extra CD's to VCD's. Try that. http://www.ahead.de Enjoy!

Ya know, I use XP, and have had no problems burning any and all forms of CD's, including MP3 CD's for use in an MP3 CD player. Maybe its just you... or maybe its just me. Whatever.

It's crippled after 30 days, I believe, dropping down to 1X max burning speed.

I'm still burning at regular speeds and have had a free version for years. Besides, getting the full version of nero is well worth it anyway.

By free I take it he means a version that was released a milennia ago, or a recent version that was warezd. Either way, your ripping yourself off or them off.

What's so bad with WindowsXP's built-in burning ability? Should be at least as good as OSX's, or am I putting too much faith into XP?
Did someone say booya?

Its alright if you just want to drop a few files on a cd, but if you want to burn isos (linux distros I swear) music cds, or anything else you need real software.
