Aman you have to watch the movies, or at least the first one, to fully understand Evangelion. I believe the first movie came out between 24 and 25, but the best way to watch it is to put in episode 25, watch up to the half way point, then put in the movie. That is roughly where the movie starts, then the next half of 25 occures after the movie. That first movie is Death and Rebirth. It is not available on DVD at the moment, although the voice acting is done by the same people I believe (been a while).
Once you watch the movie you will have a lot more respect for Eva, as the first movie is great and defines the series as a whole quite well. *Warning* Eva is still a little wierd though. You kinda have to be familiar with other Ginax productions and Japans current social environment to really understand the developers intent completely.
After the first movie Ginax moved on to examining the characters in the series. The characters development and foils were pretty much the whole point of the series, and the last episode and a half tried to break them down and provide the characters with resolution. Unfortunatly Ginax had run out of money, and they alude to that when they say durring the last episode that "due to time constraints" they will only examine one file(Shingi). They pretty much explain his foils then have him overcome them durring that episode. This has little to do with the story of the new genisis, it was about the character Shinji.
I can not recall seeing the second movie. It was titled 'er um not sure probably EoE'. I hear it is really good. I'm not sure if it is supposed to compliment episode 26 by looking at characters besides Shinji or if it is supposed to replace episode 26. It is not as neccesary as the first movie to watch, but again, is supposed to be good.

EoE-End of Evangelion is basically shows how instrumentality happens and kinda has a psycotherapy session with Shinji as the rest. The end does not have a full resolution that I can see, but It is as the title states The End.I can not recall seeing the second movie. It was titled 'er um not sure probably EoE'. Amanalphion: I can confirm this. There is a tactical/simulator game coming out for PS2, and it is supposed to be a sequel to Evangelion.
Azmail: Shut the fuck up. Even if I ignore all of the blatant spelling errors in your post, you could not be stupider. First off, both movies came out after the TV series ended. They were a response to negative feedback from viewers on the last two episodes, since they didn't clear things up enough. They only examine Shinji because he is the main character, and it took a god damn hour just to do him. If they did everyone, then it owuld have gobe on for another 20 episodes. Gainax has never come close to runnng out of money. They are one of the most succesful animation studios ever, second only to Ghibli
Both movies are out on DVD in the US, and have been for a long time. The End of Evangelion was the secong half of Death and Rebirth, plus another half hour to finish off the series. As for a time frame, episodes 25 and 26 take place as Instrumentality begins, which is about the time where Unit 01 merges with the Tree of Life(though likeely closer to when everyone's AT fields start breaking down).
Get your facts straight vefore you open that idiotic hole is your face that makes people dumb.

The second movie is the only one you need. You can do completely without the first. It is not as neccesary as the first movie to watch, but again, is supposed to be good.

Thank you, a little too harsh though.

Abso-fuckin-lutely!
Or we could just boycott the whole thing.

There are also things that cannot be explained.

My self-esteem and confidence aren't high enough to make a petition. That's what happens when you're the creepy kid that sits alone at lunch reading manga. If I made a petition and nobody signed, I would lie down and cry...
But will someone else please make one? I would love to show those idiots just how many NGE fans regard their movie as the coming apoccalypse.
