Hey, it is a desktop for the colloquy client... it seemed somehow appropriate here. It's a work in progress, but I thought it was fun. The timestamp and event messages are still a bit difficult to read. I need to work on the css for that.

Unzip this to /Applications/Colloquy/Resources/Styles/
restart Colloquy and find it in the styles drop down in the appearances tab. Enjoy!

Comic Sans? Really? You should be ashamed of yourself.

It's only temporary till I find the font that Greg is using in the comic.

Besides, you should be ashamed for expecting people to post non shameful things on RLF... :D

I just redesigned my wallpaper to make it stretch across both screens (and I found some new reference shots of the U.S.S. Discovery panels that helped me along) so I figured I'd post it here:

Photobucket scales the full-size wallpaper down too much, but you get the gist of it. :P

Very nice. Makes me want that new 24" Dell UltraSharp I've had my eye on...

Are any of those objects usable, or are they just images, Greg?

Currently just images. I had switched away from using Litestep as a shell replacement when I went dual-monitor, just because rewriting the theme I was using at the time to work with multi-mon support was a pain in the ass. Now, though, I might just work on getting it working again. It used to be a pretty sweet interface. :)

It also makes me wish there was some way to embed flash files in a desktop - those 6 computer screens on the left could be animated with some stuff I found here: http://www.halproject.com/hal/

Offhand - anyone know a way to do image-based buttons that can launch programs WITHOUT having to switch to Litestep or some other shell replacement? Preferably something that allows for animated buttons.

If you're using XP (which is looks like you are), you could always design the desktop as an HTML file and use Active Desktop (although I think you're forced to have a white bar at the top of the screen, can't remember though). You'll need an Active Desktop replacement if you want to do it with a Vista machine since they ditched Active Desktop for the Sidebar.

So, looking at that, my main concern would be that I want to create buttons that allow me to launch programs - that's what I did with Litestep, anyway. If my desktop is a big-ass webpage, that doesn't seem like it'd be able to do what i need it to, sadly. :(

I miss Litestep.

...Or should I say, I miss having a program I could automatically blame for pretty much anything that went unexpectedly wrong on my computer.

Edit: Ooh, and having Winamp controls right there on my taskbar if I wanted was nice, too.

Sure you can, use Flash for your buttons.

Code: Select all

on (release) {
fscommand ("exec", "c:\path\to\program.exe");
}

Dude...that's been a basic feature of Winamp for...forever, I guess. A long time, anyway. No need for Lightstep for that.
