Something Lord Dibbon said a while back made me think. Something about being sick at the thought of a girl being girlie. This is not an exact quote, feel free to post the exact quote if you want, but it was the jist. And the jist is what matters.
I'm reminded of my women and power in comparative perspective class at MSU. I made the comment that I didn't understand how, in certain times, women felt they had to sacrifice their femininity in order to fit into a gender bifurcated society. I took the example of Rosie the riviter. Why did she have to have thos ebulging bicepts?

Couldn't she call women to where they were needed and still maintain her femininity? Why did it have to be sacrificed?
Also, the movie G.I. Jane. I loved that movie. There was an excellent, EXCELLENT example of how a woman can remain feminine and excell in an otherwise man's world. All up until the point when she tells the guy to "suck [her] dick" (pardon my french). Why did she have to do that? The movie was on a roll, I was loving it! And then she lost in the end. Even though she won... I really felt that she lost. Whew. This post turned into more of a discussion than I thought. If the mods feel it necessary to move this, then I understand.

Liz, I would be your girly friend.. except, I am not really girly or in California. Sorry!
Dreamer, don't make me hurt you. Why do you feel that every woman should be feminine? Every person is different; that is what makes soceity interesting and keeps it functioning. A woman with huge biceps *gasps* So? She has dirt all over her too. But, if you will notice, she is wearing makeup and has her hair done. She is doing better than me. I don't wear makeup, I rarely actually "do" my hair, I sometimes paint my nails (I usually chip it off though,) I hate dresses and skirts, high heel shoes are a pain, my speech can be very vulgar (when kids, work, and old people are not in hearing range,) I pick up bugs, I get dirt all over me, etc.
I also don't appreciate it when guys set double standards. If I want to burp in the privacy of my own place, I will. But, a man that is in my life and very close to me, always feels the need to admonish me for doing so. He says that it is disgusting and not proper for me to do this and then turns around and belches louder than I had. Now, I don't mind if he burps in front of me.. I do get really ticked that he says it is not right for me to do it, yet feels it is more than fine for a man to do so. I grew up hearing from my father that things were okay for my brother to do and not okay for me to do because I was a girl. I could not ride my bike across the busy street to go to the pool but my brother could. I had earlier curfews because I was a girl. For chores, I had to be domestic. My brother mowed the grass, and took out the garbage. The dusting, bathroom cleaning (2 of the 3,) vacuuming, ironing, window cleaning, and cooking belonged to me. My brother and I took turns doing the dishes. House repairs were done by the whole family.. the family that paints together stays together. My father, brother, and I all participated in vehicular maintenance.. but, I was never left to work alone on a car. I don't know why, but when it came to "manly" things my father thought I was incapable or incompetent.

I agree with you Circe. Maybe my post was too short to really get across what I mean.
I agree that there are always thing a woman can to better than a man, same as there are things a man can to better than a woman. I don't think painting your nails and doing your hair are inherently feminine qualities. I didn't make that statement, if you reread my post, you did. All I meant is that these examples I gave seem to me to be disregarding feminine sexuality entirely. Can you deny that that's a woman's head on a man's body? Why does a woman need a man's body to survive in a male world? Do you think it's necessary? I certainly don't.

hmmm....girly...by girly you do mean like...painting nails....talking about boys....wont do something cause they will get dirty...or kill a spider cause they don't like them? that what you mean by girly? yea....sorry...don't like that awhole lot. I like the women that get down and dirty...that don't really care about it. If they wanna wear make-up great...if not thats fine as well. I don't mind a women that I'm dating to want to go lift weights or go run or play some sort of sport. I don't care if a women burps in front of me. I'm the one sitting there saying "Nice!" although when I do it myself someone likes to tell me its disgusting whats disgusting about it? its just air. Women that are them selves and don't act "girly" all the time and think they are way better than men I think are awesome and have my full support.
/edit you can delete the double post your self you know....

I don't know if that is actually a man's body or not; sure, the arms are much bigger than most women's arms. But, how can you fault a person for his/her body.. that is the only body that he/she knows fully. Maybe her build with working as hard as she did became that way on its own. I don't think steroids were big around the time that the poster was made. Correct me if I am wrong on that. Just because a person is a man or a woman does not mean that the person will have a body built like the average person of the same sex.
As to why a woman would need a body that is comparable to a man's body to survive in a male world.. well, I think your question answers itself.

I feel the need to break into a stolen song. Please excuse me.
Ahem.
I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all day
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavat'ry
On Wednesdays I go shopping
And have buttered scones for tea
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I love to press wild flow'rs
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars
I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspenders and a bra
I wish I'd been a girlie
Just like my dear papa
Ahem. Thank you.

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.
I'm a very girly girl. I almost always wear dresses or skirts(only reserves slacks for work). I don't wear makeup as much as I used to, and I never really made much of an effort with my hair. But I curse worse than a sailor, and am about the farthest from Prim and Proper that you can get and not have a penis. I just prefer to look pretty, but that sure as hell doesn't mean I have to act pretty. I can't stand 99.9999% of the girls my age, mostly because I can't relate to talking about boys, shopping, and what they're going to wear to the prom.

quite franky, I would like a girl that's not really that girly at all. If a woman burps allowed and says exscuse me, I tend to reply that they don't need to do that. If a woman doesn't spend all her time on trying to look pretty, that would be good.,,, aaah for get it I'm not geting anywhere
