true... I've had some minor damage to my car due to it.... it oxidized a small part of the driver side door. not to mention all the deaths each year caused by it.

Hydrogen is not techinically an alkali metal. It pretty much does its own thing. When's the last time you heard of an alkali metal forming a negative ion? Hydride is real, and actually not uncommon when hydrogen gas is stored in metal containers, a major problem with hydrogen powered cars.
