I'm glad you've got the world sorted out, because I sure haven't.
Reality is NOT what you perceive. It is what IS. Just because you are not living in reality doesn't mean that reality is flexible. Good for you. I don't agree at all.
As Fixer said in another thread, therse is a definite Truth, and what we perceive is simply a distorted reflection of that Truth.
Good thing he knows then.

The rest of that post is just you fighting to prove your own existence (which in itself gives a hint of selfdoubt). Which is pretty much exactly what I'd expect from a thought. Not saying you aren't real, even though it has crossed my mind more than once, but you are sure as hell behaving like a figment of my imagination.
Gee, I sure like TV. And wearing pants.

Real or not, I intend to enjoy life isntead of pondering about it.

It feels real, and other people are real enough to react when trodden on.

Count: I understand the difference between reality and Truth as you come to define them. If that is the commonly used meaning for reality, then perhaps I have not been making myself clear enough. There are those among us who would claim they are the only Truth. They give no thought to harming others, as to them they are not True, but illusions.

I apologize if it seems like I'm freaking out. It's just a very offensive thing for me when people say I do not exist. Even being hated is preferable to your very existence being doubted.

I'm content to let this thread die now. I wasn't trying to prove anything to myself. I was only curious to see if I could change somebody's mind about the whole existence thing. Life seems very lonely and frightening if you're the only one living it. I didn't want people to go through life feeling that way. I thought if I could convince even one person that they were not alone, it would be worth it. If anything, the typical reaction was the opposite of what I had hoped for. Instead of considering for a moment that a living person is typing this, you all doubt my existence even more than you did before I posted anything.

"I'm glad you've got the world sorted out, because I sure haven't."

I'm not saying I have the world all sorted out. I used to entertain the same sorts of thoughts you all did. I thought myself the only true Man in the world, and the rest of you merely dreams. Needless to say I have changed my mind since. Even the things I am saying, I have no proof of. They are simply my beliefs, and if they are ever proven wrong I will quickly toss them aside. I will accept the fact that you cannot accept anything as fact. I only ask that you all extend that courtesy to me. You don't have to know I exist, as long as you don't claim to know that I do not. To do that would be the greatest insult.

Well, for those who are bound and determined to be depressed, I suppose you're right grandjoke. But once you accept that other people are just as real as you are, then it's possible to go out and meet them, and really care about them, and make friends so you're not lonely anymore.

Awesome. Me too. Then again, I also believe in infinite dimensions, and infinite dimensions within those dimensions... which makes me a crazy person, as you'll note the title above my avatar.
Instead of considering for a moment that a living person is typing this, you all doubt my existence even more than you did before I posted anything.
And you honestly didn't see that coming?
I used to entertain the same sorts of thoughts you all did.
That sounds very patronizing.
I will accept the fact that you cannot accept anything as fact.
Assuming that I am unable to is rude, not to mention inaccurate.

Then consider yourself insulted.

Shyknight, you don't exist!

The memory of you was just edited into out memories to make us think that you exist.

The only real thing here I see is that people post in this tread, or else none of you exist, for there is no other way of knowing that you do exist as an individual to my perception.

Reading all of this reminds me of a story. Let me share it with you and perhaps you can draw some wisdom from it.

Two men were curious as to how many trees there were in a forest.

The first said they should go around and count each tree and mark it so it would not be counted twice. In that manner, they would know how many there were precisely.

The second man knew there were so many trees in this forest they could not do so in their lifetime, and that trees would fall down and new ones would grow requiring a recount. It was not possible to count them individually. Instead, he counted how many there were in a smaller parcel of land and mapped the larger area to find out how big it was, and just multiplied by how many parcels there were and came up with an 'estimated guess'.

This guess did not satisfy the first man, who started counting.

The moral of the story?

In the end, the absolute truth is unknowable, and guessing is not very accurate. But choose something and follow your heart. You will never be proven right, but you will never be proven wrong, either.

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.

Well, I for one am real.

I believe Shyknight is real too.

Although, when I was younger(and long before the Truman Show,) I used to think that everybody else was a robot, and that they all interacted to make my life the way it was... And then sometimes I thought, "Maybe I am everybody..." (i.e. I'd live a life as one person, die, and go onto another life as another person, and everybody else was just me in a different lifetime, acting differently due to different circumstances.)

These days though, I don't feel like the world revolves around me as much as I used to.

Yes the world is real enough.
But to obtain certain knowledge, one must question everything, even the existence of oneself or another.
