Where were YOU 2 years ago?
I was up incredibly early that day for some reason, so I was up right when the planes hit. I heard a brief blurb about it on the news through my headphones, but it didn't really connect to me. All I really heard was 'plane crash'. It wasn't until my then boyfriend John called me to tell me about it that I really started paying attention to the news. The next day I went to the mall with my friend Andrea and everything was just so... empty and somber.

Gah I remember that day so well, strolling into my 8thE Social Studies class like every other day since school had just restarted sat down next to a couple friends of mind who happened to be talking about a "plane crash in NYC into the Trade Center" I was liek whatver no big deal.
As the school day went on more details came in nothing making it seem so huge tho. Also people seemed to be leaving school a LOT of people this I also shrugged off.
Of course it all hit me when I turned on the TV when I got home. All I could do was sit and watch in awe...

I was in school. The first I heard about it was when we were talking in Comp. Sci. class and my teacher said "Did you know two planes hit the WTC?"
I said something to the effect of "That's nice. When?"
"This morning."
"Oh. That's nice."
I tell you, there's a difference between hearing it from a teacher and watching elctronic signals turn into red, green, and blue pixels turn into death...

I was in Mr. Grothen's Pre-Calc class and it was about 7 or 8 in the morning when he said that a plane hit the world trade center. I only knew about the first plane hitting it then and it didn't even dawn on me that it wasn't an accident. Then my next class I knew the whole story and my physics teacher who was usually awesome continued on with class. I didn't even get to watch what was happening on tv til my 4th period which was around 10 o'clock.
Re: Where were YOU 2 years ago?
I, too, was asleep when it happened.
I found out on my way to school. The morning-talk radio people were discussing it, but because I was tired it came out: "planes blah blah blah the WTC blah blah blah". I clearly remember my mother saying "WHAT happened?" and my brother responding, almost in tears: "2 planes struck the WTC". I didn't really know WHAT was going on because I was so tired.
Anyway, at school, the boys in my class were discussing it saying "Oh, those Americans deserved it." My English teacher promptly told them all off. I'm so glad she did. That shut them up. Throughout they entire day, we watched the coverage in various classrooms. They never actually showed the planes flying into the towers, so it STILL didn't click.
Finally, I got home and my dad was there, watching it. I sat down with him. Thats when it finally hit me. I sat there for the rest of the evening shocked and with tears in my eyes.
To this day, I'm still having nightmares about the attacks.

I was sleeping when the first plane hit. Vaguely rememberd hearing something about it on the radio but assumed it was a small plane. When I woke up (well, when my kid woke me up) I went out and heard about it on the news. I must have been watching for like 10 minutes when the second plane hit. I spent the rest of the day glued to the tv in shock...
Well I was in bed, had just gotten up for class and I get a call from my mom (I was in seattle, she was in South Carolina) Well she tells me what is going on, I turn on the tv, get the rest of the info, head to the college, get told to get out of the area (next to microsoft) and head to the apartment and was glued to the tv.
"I am a Klingon warrior and a Starfleet officer; I have piloted starships through Dominion minefields; I have stood in battle against Kelvans twice my size; I have courted and won the heart of the magnificent Jadzia Dax! If I can do these things, I can make this child go to sleep!"
I was on my mission in Indiana... being Tuesday, our day to get our laundry and other essentials taken care of, we were waiting in our apartment for one of the members of the local congregation to pick us up. When he came in, he told us what happened, and turned on our radio (a rare event... usually the stereo was just used to play Tabernacle Choir tapes/CDs and the like). Didn't quite click until we got to his house and saw it on the TV. We eventually got our laundry done and our letters written, though I don't think I said too much about the events of that day. A later letter from my dad mentioned that my sister, whose husband is in Air Force communications in D.C., had trouble getting home that day. Me... I know it's a tragic event, but the thought that really stuck out was "Does this mean they won't ever show that episode of the Simpsons where Homer has to go to NY to pick up his car?" Shallow, I know... I'm the kind of guy that tends to sympathize with Weird Al's song "Why Does This Always Happen to Me", though I'm trying to be more caring and empathetic.
I got out of bed after the first plane hit and headed down to wash my car without turning on the TV. I heard Mark and Brian mention something about a plane crash, but I thought it was some kind of prank. Then, after I washed the car, they were still talking about it, and I realized right about then that they weren't kidding about a plane crash. I got home and turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit. My dad and I were planning to go to an author signing that night, but it was canceled, understandably.
