Banyo es a-yee. (point finger in direction of bathroom) (I am spelling phonetically, get over it.)
One of the most useful phrases you can know in spanish.
That and "She was your sister? I had no idea!" which I have never learned.
What?

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.
If HE is the transfer student, and not you, then he should be the one trying to speak english, and the one sounding like the sputtering retard. You trying to talk to him in a langauge not native to your local area (as said, assuming thats where you are) at all, regardless of how poorly, is incredibly polite and he has no right to judge you on it.
Furthermore, body langauge and hand gestures will probally do you the most good, while speaking your langauge slowly or patiently. That way he'll learn what you're saying instead. Keep paper around so you can draw things out if the need arises.

You said he’s a transfer student, so that implies he’s going to be living in an English-speaking community for a while. If that's the case I have to agree with Mav to some extent, you don't want to become a crutch for the guy. However, pictures and hand gestures aren't going to help with anything after the simplest stuff.
I think the best way to help is to refresh your vocabulary, and not to worry about making sentences. If you can understand him when he speaks, then go ahead and respond in simple English. If there are words you say that he doesn’t understand, then you’ll be able to translate one word at a time and he can pick up words. If there is ever a time you can answer in Spanish, answer in English first and then repeat in Spanish if he doesn’t understand. You didn’t say what his English level is, so it’s hard to give advice on how you can help him.
