Charles Bronson, star of Westerns for a couple of decades and the star of the Deathwish movie series.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

I recall, barely, a Deathwish movie and I am older than you are, Martin. Bear in mind, though, that he hasn't done anything big recently and most of the forumites aren't old enough to have seen any of the Deathwish series. It is not surprising that no one mentioned it in here.

Pub argument: was he the last of the Magnificent Seven to ride off to the great Corral in the sky?

A little sorta on a tangent, but speaking of Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt", I have to say anyone who even has an idea of how influential and important Cash's work and art has been to music and entertainment, find his video for "Hurt" and download it!

I'm a HUGE NIN fan, and when I 1st heard Cash had covered "Hurt" I was amused. What? A country singer covering a song about self-pity and heroin?!

But after watching Cash's video, I'll never think of that song the same way again. He turned an industrial pity anthem into a brilliant ode, or requiem to his own life, and it's incredibly poingent and beautiful and sad. I always knew how important Johnny Cash has been to music in general, but was never really a fan, but that video made me tear up quite good.
I think it's a perfect cap to a very rocky, bitter-sweet life.

I agree.. it's an amazing video. The moment I heard about it (a few weeks ago) I knew I had to see it. I wasn't sure he could pull that song off (no fault of his - the original is simply a very different style than his) but after having seen it a couple times I wonder if I'm starting to like Cash's version better. It's just.. wow.

(oh, and as much as I liked Ritter, I think Johnny at LEAST deserves his own thread. *grumbles*)

I wasn't a big fan a John Ritter, though I did watch some Three's company from time to time.

I was a huge Johnny Cash fan though. I loved his music and his songs, the man was great.

Most people will remember John Ritter for "3's Company", but did you see him in "Sling Blade"? He really could act!!
And while still farce, "Noises Off!" and "Skin Deep" will remain classics.
Thing is, no matter how goofy he was, he was still so likeable and forgiveable.

You obviously didn't see him in a particular episode of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (first season, if I recall correctly). He was definitely NOT forgivable in that one. Likeable, maybe, but not forgivable.

My dad was a HUGE cash fan, so I can't think of/listen to him without thinking of my dad. I just listened to his version of Hurt and it was so much more touching than Trents version. He just sounds so defeated, and lost, and beaten.

If I could start again, a million miles away, I would keep myself, I would find a way.
