Away Messages and People that can't read.

Post by Jezebel » Sun Sep 21, 2003 3:18 am

I haven't ranted much lately, so I'm making up for some lost time here.

Another thing that drives me INSANE, is when I have an away message up and someone sends me a message. That's fine, sometimes you can't tell if I'm away if you aren't paying much attention. But what drives me totally batshit is when they send me a message, and get an Auto response and CONTINUE TO TALK TO ME. And then wonder why I'm not answering. Hello? Are you brain dead?

Example:

RandomDude1110093: Hey how's it going?
Ms Naydina: *** Auto-response sent to RandomDude1110093: Yah Work time for me. :\
RandomDude1110093: What have you been up to lately?
RandomDude1110093: Are you there?
RandomDude1110093: Hello???
RandomDude1110093: Anybody Home?
RandomDude1110093: Fine, guess you didn't want to talk to me.

Can you not tell by the auto(as in, NOT ME TALKING) response that I'm not around? I have no issues with people sending me messages, or talking to me while I'm away, but when you get surprised or wonder why I'm not answering when I'm NOT EVEN ON THE FRIGGIN' COMPUTER, That's what pisses me off to no end. Get a clue people. Away means just that. Away. If I have an away message up and I don't respond to you, it's because I really am away. Especially if it says I'm at work! *stabs self*

To clarify: I don't care if you send me 10,000 messages while I'm away, you can talk to yourself all you want, it's when you expect me to answer and get your wittle feelings hurt when I don't that pisses me off.

nonono... you don't stab yourself. You stab them... or at least MB, but never yourself.

I get these sometimes....

However, I'm also a rude bastid and forget to set my away status often, so then I can't blame people, because they really could think I was there.

Well if you do leave your IM in "I'm here" mode then it is to be expected that people will poke at you a bit.

I agree with Jez though that it gets VERY irritating when people get hurt that I don't answer them. I know I am always in N/A or Away mode so attempting to find me is acceptable, but if I don't answer then I REALLY am away from the comp. Grr..

I hate people who don't set themselves to Away, and get all pissy if I talk to them and they're not there.

As well as people who ignore my away messages. 'I'm on the phone, sod off and come back later when I'm on' means just that. Sod off and try again later.

/me makes a note to send Jezzy a message when he gets home and pretend to be annoyed when she does not answer.

:shifty: What?

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.

I think the worst one of those I ever got was when I had an away message up stating that I was out of town for the day and if needed to call my cel phone.

I came home 10 hours later to this

G_Random_Retard: Hi! :)
Me: *** Auto-response sent to G_Random_Retard: Out of the house all day long! Call my cell if it's important ^_^
G_Random_Retard: Hello?
G_Random_Retard: Where are you at today?
G_Random_Retard: What's your cell phone number? I'll call it :) :)
G_Random_Retard: Are you even listening to me????

RARARRRRRRRRAAAAAR!!!!!!!!! >_< Now I coudl understand this if I had JUST put the away message up. But my status read "idle" for 3 hours at the time twinko messaged me....and then I blocked them ^_^

I have a friend who's away message is "I'm not here right now, but feel free to talk to yourself."

his girlfriend left him over 100 messages in the course of a half hour.

I never really end up having this problem unless I am expecting a message from someone. Normally I just turn AIM or whatever I am using off when I am away from the comp. But if I am expecting one of my friends tomessage me I just set my away to something like "Hey, not here right now, try again later, if this is Joe than leave the time you are coming over." or whatever I need to know from them.
"Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm crazy."

And then it's time to dump her o_O

Unless of course she has a really good sense of humor and did that to be funny.......
