My place of business really doesn't have a dress code. If I really wanted to I could probably wear T-shirts and jeans most day that we don't have official visitors. But I'm not a t-shirt kind of guy, so I mostly wear khakis and polos.

Last summer, I tried to see how far I could push the dress code however.

I started with dress shoes. Worked my way down to casual dress... gym shoes... leaving shoes at the desk (walking around with dress socks)... sandals... and finally, leaving the sandals at the desk and walking barefoot. That finally got the boss' attention.

(boss talking in sort of a Bill Lumberg-type voice)

Boss: "Um, I know we never talked about a dress code, but I think barefoot takes it a little bit too far. Sandals are acceptable, but I don't think barefoot is appropriate for a business environment."

The understatement speaks for itself.

And yes, I was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and Jeans at the time.
- We were never being boring. We had too much time to find for ourselves.

My wife's favorite observation on dress codes relates to the "Shirt and Shoes Required" signs. She generally notes its distinct lack of stipulating you must wear pants.
