Question on the law (Dun dun dun!)
Now, let's say I make a screenname called RIAAAgent1736. And I pose as an RIAA agent. Is that illegal? Just wondering. And if it is, how illegal are we talking?

Depends on how far you go. If you trick people into sending you $2 per song (the IRAA's current "sue" rate) they admit to downloading, thats also illeagle, unless you had no foreseeability on it.

Using a RIAA screen name not illegal.
None of which I did. Is simply saying "My name is (insert historical figure), and Iwork for the RIAA. We have detected illegal files on your computer" illegal?
This denotes Hacking which is illegal.
Or, if he posed as a RIAA agent and went to somebody's house, demanding to see the contents of their hard drive. That would be quite illegal.
But the thing is, the RIAA is just the recording industry. They have no power, so they couldn't do that anyways. Pretending to be a RIAA-narc would be like pretending to be an employee of GE, or someone who works for the automobile industry.

If the RIAA showed up at my door demanding to see the contents of my Hard Drive, I would drop my pants and tell them to, "GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN."
