Televisions out the yin-yang
Televisions out the yin-yang
You know what I mean... at Wal-Mart, at any moderate restaurant, at any fast-food restaurant..... TVs are EVERYWHERE. Has society become so dependent on that little box that we can't even get a meal without it? I can understand at restaurants that are also bars, as the beer-guzzlers can't live without their futbawl.... but in the rest of the restaurant, too? You can't even go to Arby's or Taco Bell without listening to a TV blaring. Speaking of which, if you MUST have a TV in your business, does it have to be up so loud??? If your customers have to raise their voice to talk over the TV, does it make sense to turn the TV up more? There's this great thing called "closed captioning" that would let them read it and let the rest of us preserve our hearing.
Oh, I'm sorry... I forgot.. that would require the ability to READ.
Helllooooooo.... America???? Can you tear your eyes away from the boob tube long enough to enjoy the meal you paid for and maybe grace your family with a few words resembling conversation?????

Actually, I enjoy this concept in SOME ways. It's a good news source for the uninformed American public. That's why, reguardless of any taped on signs or whatever, whenever I'm at a place with a TV and controls I can get at, I switch it to CNN or, if no cable, the best local news station I can find.

I can see why some people would get annoyed about that I am too. I can understand that in bars having a sport on for you to watch. But you don't need it all over the place. Now in places like Wal-Mart that sell them I can see a wall of TVs on at a time to let people see the size of the TV and how it looks compaired to others. Just how at like Best Buy they have a few rows of computers turned on so that you can see how they work and if it suits you and all.

Arby's? Taco Bell? I've yet to see a television on in any of the fast food restaraunts in the area. They want you out of the dining room as quickly as possible, not sitting around wasting space that other customers could be using.
SIG TREND OF THE MONTH IS BLANK SIGS BECAUSE I GOT LAZY AND DIDN'T MAKE THE THING AND STUFF.

I have not owned a TV in 3 years, prior to that I lived with my dad and had cable access but rarely watched it. Discovery channel, History channel, Learning channel, or news were about all I watched. I would say that certainly not all persons are dependant on television. I suppose that I don't go to bars or shopping enough to really be annoyed by TVs. I mostly ignore those few I come across at the doctor's office or something.
Most people think I am odd. I rather like it that way.

Just today I finally contacted the Cable company to see how much it would cost me to get the channels I used to watch when still living with my parents (Cartoon Network, MSNBC, CNN, The History Channel, TLC, and on occasion CBS, NBC, ABC, or one of the other local stations). I've pretty much liveed without cable TV since March, and I don't really miss it that much, I just like to watch cartoons every once in a while

When I turned 16, my parents got me this rather large TV/VCR combo. It is, by far, the largest non-furnature object in my room.
Its sort of a waste of space, though. Except for the occasional movie rental, I turn the thing on 5 maybe 6 times a month. I am much too busy wasting my time here to watch TV.

I agree that TV in restaurants is a bit silly, but there is a bonus, assuming it's not on a soap or some equally as pointless show. When I was in California, Mav and I were at a restaurant and with a TV and CNN on, it got us talking about what was going on in the world. Having a TV on could provoke intelligent conversation, instead of the usual topics.

I lived without cable from 7th grade until college, then the first half of freshman year we had a 13" TV in a fairly poor place for watching it. As you would guess, I really dont watch very much TV (although this new "Comedy Central" thing might hold some potential...) I ocassionally watch movie or anime (however usually on a computer screen).
As for TVs being everywhere, I usually dont care for them. I really only think two conditions are acceptable:
1) TVs in bars that are showing sporting events.
2) TVs with the news on (preferably with closed captions)

I have not taken an interest in television shows since 2001. I do not remember the show I had an interest in but it ended and I have not watched TV since (regularly, sometimes I watch a movie or something). Usually I play video games or browse the Internet or *gasp* read a book.
I need to finish 1001 Arabian nights. I am only on the 354th night or something. That book is long in its entirety. Six volumes, and I am only on volume 3.

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.
