[quote="Shyknight";p="201259"]Soth: Yeah, but only you would want to read that. Again and again. And pausing every once in a while to look at yourself in the mirror and say "hey good one"

So?
So?
SIG TREND OF THE MONTH IS BLANK SIGS BECAUSE I GOT LAZY AND DIDN'T MAKE THE THING AND STUFF.

Yeah, and this way you know you wont lose your audience. You want to catch their attention from the very beginning and keep them, not buck them off like a bull the second the real plot comes in. Just hold tight to some sort of plot, and everything will be ok. Minor preperations make all the difference. If you're having trouble getting ideas, or overcoming your inner editor, maybe you just need to start the book really simple so a child could understand, and then go back later and elaborate on it. Works for me.
Best way I think you can write a novel is to start with your basics as Shyknight has mentioned, then formulate the problem and the resolution.
Along the way you can cram whatever twists and turns you want to make the novel more interesting.
It has always worked for me.
I've just started, and im on 3,000 words.
The joys of being grounded.
