Rozen Maiden: an anime about life like dolls that are forced to fight for the souls of each other. When you defeat one doll, you gain their soul, and the last doll remaining become the favorite doll of the creator. But, the dolls can only fight when they have human hosts to supply their magic.

Decent plot, in theory, but I ended up stopping part way through because most of the episodes feel like filler, and the animation style was pure crap. The dolls kept changing height from scene to scene without any explanation (in one scene they would be too short to open a door, in the next they would be the same height as the door handle), and I don't think it goes anywhere as a story. Not something I would recommend.

And, for the guys who like G-Gundam, there actually is a G-Gundam vs Gundam Wing plot line. So very, very funny. :D

Yeah. Or, at least, that's kinda the gist of it. As I said, the anime isn't really clear. I don't think the writers had a clue what they were doing,t hey just wanted to draw little loli figures.

You can think of it in a highlander kind of way yeah, they fight to become "Alice" which is supposed to be a perfect being.

Too bad there's not much fighting. lol

Yeah, If you want the core story, you only need to watch about half of the episodes, for both seasons.

I didn't notice the height thing. Though some dolls are taller then the others.

G-gundam vs. W-gundam? Where? :o

I saw this was recommended before, but with no description or review and it wasn't on the list, so here we go.

I recommend Claymore. I'm not sure how many people have heard of it, I've only talked to a few that have actually watched it, most have just heard the name. Not a very popular anime, it will never see season 2, but what there is is still great (excluding the last few episodes). The story is about an organization compromised of women who are sent out to kill youma, which are demons that are able to disguise themselves as humans they have killed. The women of the organization, nicknamed Claymores by humans because of their obvious weapon of choice, are half human, half youma and are able to sense yoki, which is the aura the youma give off, giving them the ability to sense a youma if they are disguised. The story starts out rather slow as the basic plot is pretty unoriginal, but around the 5th or 6th episode, the plot picks up and is hard to resist from then on. Now, I'm definitely not a huge fan of anime (only enjoy Kenshin/Samurai X, Yu Yu Hakasho, Berserk and I did like Naruto before it came to the US and became saturated), but this has become my favorite anime/manga of all time. The only problem with the anime is that by the end, it completely strays away from the manga and kills the reason of the series. They won't be able to continue it unless they redo the last couple of episodes. Other than that, great art style, great music, great story and only one annoying character (who becomes pretty awesome in the manga, if they could have only taken the anime that far).

The manga is written by Norihiro Yagi and the anime is directed by Hiroyuki Tanaka. The anime still hasn't been released in the US yet and was recently bought by FUNimation and is being released in October. The manga is available in most stores and scans are also available free through http://www.onemanga.com

Ah crud, must have accidently skimmed it, missed that part. Thanks for the pointer, allow me to uh, fix the list?

Solty Rei is a Sci Fi series about a girl with an unknown past who happens to fall into the lap of a bounty hunter named roy. This is kinda vague, but i don't want to spoil.

Desert Punk is about a mercenary in a post apocalyptic japan. It's comedy, and well... hmm, can't really think of a way to describe it other than to say that the guy is a smartass.

Gunsword revolves around a guy who is trying to find the man that killed his wife. It has mecha.

trying hard not to cross the line into spoilers, so sorry about the vagueness.

I'd have to second Desert Punk (A.K.A Sunabozu, hence the previous poster's username), it's a pretty damned funny series. Good action scenes too.

Not really, sadly. The closest I know of is The Cockpit, a three episode series about the second world war from the point of view of pilots and soldiers involved in the conflict. In all honesty though, that series is more Memphis Belle than Band of Brothers, so I'm not quite sure if this is what your friend is looking for. In a pinch, there's always Black Lagoon, which does have a few scenes that could be from a war movie, the example the episode about the Nazi U-Boat crew.

Desert Punk, IMO, isn't that great. For me, it just had a lot of ups and downs as far as episode quality. Though, I will say that the final episodes were made of pure, unadulterated awesome.

My recommendations:
Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone- Yes, it's essentially the first few episodes of Evangelion with new animation and CGI, but there's enough different to make me really enjoy it. First off, Shinji is, surprisingly, a little less of a pussy. Shocking I know, but true. And Rei's smile after the fight with the diamond shaped Angel is cute, and not creepy anymore. As well as a few little twists. To me, the animation is what makes it shine, and the music is awesome(I actually bought the soundtrack!).

Witchblade- Based off of the American comic book, the story follows Masane Amaha, the newest bearer of the Witchblade. Filled with violence and fan service, as well as a kick arse first opening(XTC by Psychic Lover), the show is awesome.
