A word that I hate

Post by Kuronekosama » Fri Oct 03, 2003 5:31 pm

Ok, people are thinking it's like some kind of profanity or other inappropriate word, but it's not.

"Robust"

GAHHHHH DIE DIE DIE

Anyhow, I hate this word because it gets misused all the damn time. PR flunkies toss this out all the time because it sounds good and it's so damn ambiguous.

ro·bust ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-bst, rbst)
adj.
Full of health and strength; vigorous.
Powerfully built; sturdy. See Synonyms at healthy.
Requiring or suited to physical strength or endurance: robust labor.
Rough or crude; boisterous: a robust tale.
Marked by richness and fullness; full-bodied: a robust wine.

I had training for a new utility to manage user names at work here. The presentation stated it's a more "robust" utility. Wtf? How on earth is an user id utility MORE full of health and strength than another????? After reading this pay attention to media and you'll see what I mean. For a given appellation it's used quite a bit. Heh, I've converted a couple people on this already.
Crazy with a capital psycho.

Not me, I like the word
I don't know why
It just has so much to it. It's so versatile...
Dare I say it's
Robust?
My sig would have contained the secret of life, but I'd already clicked submit.

Gah! Robust is a word I hear every day with regards to software testing. You cannot talk about software testing without using that word at some point.

Robust! Robust! Your tests need to be more robust!

Die evil word, DIE!!

Somehow, I just don't see that in relation to software. That's like saying an application has a rich, full flavor with beechwood-aged interface.

but rd I hate the most is Bombdigity. I smite all who used it in my precense

so, I went into my house and made a robust snack of Hot Pockets, then set down at my rather robust computer setup and wrote an annoying sentance about the word robust.

Damn, now I hate that word too.

My current assignment wrote: 2. Equivalence partition testing

Based on identified sub-domains in Problem #1 design test cases using weak robust equivalence testing

Determine the number of additional test cases for the strong robust equivalence testing
